Ok, I've had my Wii left on for many hours at a time so far, and the system doesnt seem to get very hot. I don't really see the need to get something like this? Its not like its an xbox360, or ps3. The local ebgames kiosk has the ps3 in a chamber with air vents and fans below to keep it cool. haha.

any chance of the source of that info?
They're making an "Intercooler", the same company who made intercoolers for the XBOX360.
Didnt the Xbox 360 intercooler come into question recently, it was actually bad for the console.
oops. i just came across this at circuitcity.com by searching wii
Just google'd wii chill station.
Its not a cooler, its just a base with a light in it.
ah. thats stupid then...either way, I dont think an intercooler would be needed as the system doesnt seem to run hot. And I do think they had an issue with the 360 one using too much power and melting the housing or something...
Sometimes I play my Wii and when I'd get to a checkpoint on say Red Steel that I wanted to take a break, I just left and let the system stay on and paused, then you get a message the wii remote lost connection or something. I checked and the system was barely even hot. Warm at best.
If it actually worked and didn't sound like a 5 o'clock train flying by my livingroom window.....then it might be ok.
btw I had no idea that the Xbox360 used that much juice...Gates must be chairman of some huge power companies.
I've actually had my Wii overheat once with nothing really near it other than the TV. The first Sunday I had it me and a group of friends had been playing Wii Sports for about 6+ hours straight. We noticed the performance start decreasing, load times becoming noticably longer, and then the Wii kind of died (forgot the error message) and had to hard reset it.
I've never had that error again, but I've haven't had a chance to sit and play that long again either.
Hmmm, and I actually thought about getting the intercooler...
Guess not.

I wanted to make the console sit flat horizontal on top of my DVR cable box, but it has vents on top and would vent it straight into my wii, so I just keep it next to the tv for now...I guess one time I noticed red steel slowing down, but it may just be its glitchyness, or its a bit graphical and was using up the system resources more?
I was going to sit mine on my dresser, about a foot from my tv, will it work alright?
i dont think i'll need to get one.
As long as you keep the vents clear (and don't make one vent blow into another vent ever) you theoretically should be fine. I don't know if what I experienced was a fluke or what. Any of these systems can potentially overheat and could come from a number of different things.
For instance, it could have been that I had about 12 people in a not huge apartment on a hotter day than the day before so my AC wasn't happy and adding those two together made my apartment a bit warmer than usual. It could also just be that since that was the first day I had my system, it mau have not been worn in,who knows.
Personally, I really think it was just a fluke. Any system can overheat and it is something that just happens. I don't really think you need the cooler for the Wii, especially since we had the warning of the increased loading times.
