I've been wondering how to put animations into static images myself. I have Photoshop CS2 if you're wondering.

How do I take an image from the internet and blend it with my signature to how i want it....as you can see i dont do a very good job, i have to get white backgrounds on all my pics, and make some not as visible to make it appear as though im blending them, but it looks so cheap...can you give me some tips on how to do this?

When using the lasso tool you might have to play with the threshold a lil bit. Increasing or decreasin it will take the image that you want instead of the whole thing.

Honestly the best way to cut out those images is the pen tool. You can use it to make perfect curves and fine tune your selection till its absolutely what you want. The lasso tools work for quick areas you might want to edit.
Also when you bring those images into a document, like your signature, the one thing you absolutely want to do when resizing them is hold shift, I cant stress that enough.
Holding shift helps to make sure the part of your document you are resizing stays proportionate. Now what that means is you wont accidentally make it so Ness is super wide or Link is stretched a bunch when you go to fit them in your sig.
To JuniorMints questions on brushes it's really all about what you are about to use them for. I have presets for inking, coloring, shading, and I'm usually constantly changing them around so it's really a question of the situation. For things like maybe throwing a bit of a gradient or touch of some light color in there you might want to make sure the hardness of the brush is set very low or even to 0 then drop the opacity of the brush to maybe 10%. That way you can put just the right amount of color right where you want it.
About the text really the main concern should be legibility. Make sure the background you have your text on isn't way too loud or busy so that it takes away from the text or makes it hard to read. If there isnt a choice you can always put a light drop shadow behind it or a glow depending on if its light or dark text to help it stand out a bit more. You can also work a background for the text into whatever design you're making to help it not look tacked on.
About the animations in static images you would probably be using imageready or flash. Both are good for making gifs but you might want to use imageready at first because its slightly easier to use and lets you use those psd's for it.
In imageready what you want to do is make a layer for each frame of animation. When you're in image ready you can add frames to your animation and then for each frame it displays the layers that are on/off for that instance. So if you make each part of the animation on a different layer its as easy as turning on/off the previous/future layers for the current frame.
I do know imageready can tween but I never got into that because I mostly use flash anyway and tweening is a much easier affair in there.

Brando,
well if you want to, and i dont encourage it. but if you want to take the risk thats up to you. Some people download "Ares", a P2P Program, and download Photoshop CS, or CS2 from it...once again im not encouraging it..its illegal, but its your decision. you can also goto downloads.com and get specific programs for specific tools..or shareware.com works too. idk how good that works. sometimes you get image editors free with some software purchases, now how good they are is another question.

I don't support this but you can download the full version of Photoshop CS2 from adobe themselves. It's a trial but there are ways around it to make it a full version.
And if you want actually legitimately free try GIMP http://www.gimp.org/index.html Or if you want something free and really really simple you can use opencanvas version1.1 b72(if you can find it). It's old but it supports a networking mode where I can mess around and draw with friends and is the best prog I have found to do that so I keep it handy.

No problem dude, I've been feeling kind of fed up lately too lol. No Wii, and social problems, and whatnot, mainly probably due to lack of sleep, since I only sleep from about midnight or 1 AM to 6 AM.

Point taken lol.
And everywhere I find results for brushes lead me to Deviant Art most of the time anyway lol.
