Alright, I just finished playing through Twilight Princess. Although I really REALLY love the game and enjoyed it immensely... I can't help but think of a few letdowns that have plagued the Zelda series, and continued in Twilight Princess.

** Some Spoilers Ahead **

First: Okay, who else is tired of being rewarded with rupees and heart pieces? I know that they're both staples of the Zelda series, but I would really like a change of pace once in a while. Wouldn't it be much more rewarding to find an optional hidden item or weapon instead of an orange or silver rupee, especially when you've already maxed out your rupee-carrying capacity? I think so, especially because by the time you've finished the game's main quest and are spending the rest of your time exploring Hyrule, there's really NOTHING to spend your rupees on. After buying the Magic Armor (which itself is pretty useless), there's really not much use for the shops in the game.

Second: Why are Zelda's developers so opposed to adding some extra equipment here and there? Even though Twilight Princess technically had 3 swords and shields, which is the usual amount for a Zelda game, the Wooden Sword and Shield were used so briefly, they hardly count. There were a lot of disappointing omissions: the Biggoron Sword, the Mirror Shield, Power Bracelet/Silver & Gold Gauntlets, and Fire & Ice Arrows (I was REALLY looking forward to seeing these again). Sure, there were some really cool items added to the game like the Spinner, Ball & Chain, and Dominion Rod, but does adding new items really mean leaving classic items out?

Third: It always kinda frustrates me that when I walk back to Ordon Village, the people seem to be stuck in time, as if nothing has been going on at all since Link saved the children at the beginning of the game. To my knowledge, Twilight Princess doesn't even have an item trading sequence (such as the one you needed to complete to get the Biggoron Sword in OoT)!

These are just some minor complaints, but I really think that the developers of the next Zelda game need to address these issues if they want it to bring the series to the next level. Twilight Princess is definitely the best Zelda game ever made, but only in the sense that it does the same things that previous Zelda games did, only better. It's still the best game to be released in a long time, and is a must-have Wii title. Let me know your thoughts on what I said above! Do you agree or disagree?
Ya I maxed my money at 600 and never got another upgrade(I'm assuming there's a least one more upgrade?) and it was annoying finding so many chests with rupees.
there are some rewards that aren't heart pieces or rupees. the arrow quivers, bigger wallets, extra bomb bags...but think, if you got a new sword or armor after helping someone get their kitty back or whatever, you'd have tons of equipment. this is Zelda, not FF. your weapons and armor don't play such a huge role as much as the extra items like clawshot and such. you also shouldn't need another sword. you have the Master Sword.

i enjoyed the new items, especially their wide range of uses (EX. using the spinner to turn gears in the floor). you should appreciate Zelda sticking to its roots instead of trying to please everyone. it's an unbelievable game. be grateful
I agree with the first post. Absolutely amazing game, but it definately shows where it could have been better. I was most dissapointed with the lack of the Biggoron Sword or something similar.
I personally feel that just having the Biggoron Sword in a previous game was enough for me. You were complaining about the series continuing to stick to its roots, and keeping everything the same; yet here they are, allowing you to expand to different weapons and items, and you say you want the old items back.

The Master Sword should be the Ultimate Sword; it's the only one that can truly repel evil. The arrows - you did, technically, have fire arrows; having a bomb at the end of an arrow made an explosion, which was (in my opinion) better than having just a ball of fire. Mirror Shield? You have the ability to bounce fire arrows back at your opponents if you're blocking in the right direction, right? So there's your reflective shield; there was no need for you to bounce light around a room this time, so why expand on it more than necessary?

Sure, there was nothing in the shops to really spend your money on - but when has there been, really? In a lot of games that I can remember, I'd only go in to buy more bombs, more arrows, potions...or I'd also spend it on mini-games, just because I could. In this game, instead of getting rupees or a Bombchu as your reward, you get item upgrades, like a larger quiver, an extra bomb bag, etc.

In short - I think it keeps a good balance of new and traditional items.
Wow, I could see this coming lol. Trust me, I am grateful for Zelda, and I do appreciate that the series didn't take a 180 degree turn and leave out everything that made it great in the first place. What I said in the first post was just constructive criticism, not bitter complaining.

I wasn't complaining about the series sticking to its roots, but I was complaining that the developers seem hesitant to add on to that formula. I would never want them to take away from the formula, and I do NOT want Zelda to become a different game. If you read my initial post correctly, you'd notice I said that adding different weapons and items shouldn't mean taking away the classic weapons and items.

I do think that the Master Sword should be the final sword you get in the game, does that mean other swords can't be found first? And in reply to the person above who made the Final Fantasy reference: FF games often have over 30 or so weapons for each character, all I'm talking about here is 2 to 3 more swords, tops... I think a Zelda game can handle that.

I also think the Mirror Shield made for some of the more interesting puzzles in OoT, and really think they should have carried it over to TP. I didn't find the most of the puzzles in TP to be all that difficult. And seriously... the shield attack replaces the Mirror Shield? I don't think so. I can count on one hand the number of times I needed to use the shield attack, and it was always frustrating to pull off when I needed it most.

Also, bomb arrows are not fire arrows. Bomb arrows were a really cool inclusion to TP, but I missed the puzzles that required you to light faraway torches by shooting fire arrows at them.

Well, that was kind of my whole point. In all of the past Zelda games, there's never been much of anything to buy, but they have hundreds of thousands of rupees scattering the landscape for you to find (and you can get a Giant Wallet in TP with a max of 1000 rupees). I just really think they should make more use out of them once you find them. I didn't complain about the item upgrades, I'm glad they kept them in the game. I just wish they put more interesting stuff in treasure chests aside from Rupees and Heart Pieces.

Thanks for the replies!
