Anyone who goes on IGN.com since the launch of the Nintendo Wii will see that they're doing Virtual Console reviews. Which leads me to my question...Don't must people buying VC games realize what the games are, don't expect excellent graphics and sound, and are mainly buying them for gameplay and nostalga.
Anyhow I'd like your opinion. How harsh should a reviewer be on games that might have come out 20 years ago or should be just remember them as they were....good solid games with bleep bleep sound :)
I really like these reviews as alot of these games I've never played. In particular the game "Solomons Key", which they recently reviewed, I never knew about it but after reading the review and watching the video I really am interested in it.
Its great, I love being able to compare how the games are seen now as to how they used to be seen.
And there's no need to get cut if the reviews don't meet expectations, usually its because of emulation problems.
They are kinda helpful. I mean, i havent played many retro games beyond N64, so i really don know which ones to buy. The reviews help me make the descisions im not sure about.
Your best bet would be to compare the review of whent the game was first released, and the current re-review to see if the guy is jaded over time and biased. That's what I do. Or I just buy them because I already know and love them.
As long as when your making that consideration you are remembering they aren't all being emulated perfectly.
They should have a separate scale:
Rating for it's time:
Emulation Quality:
Replayability:
(Perhaps something else too).
