Well apparently the videos and pictures of smashed televisions and walls has persuaded Nintendo to make some modifications to the wrist strap on the wii remote. I guess people really enjoy swinging the remote harder than performing small flicks of the wrist. Apparently the change is to the strap that hold the strap onto the Wii. Australia will see the new straps first, and there is no word on the other regions yet.

Wow, I can't beleive people get so into the game that they break them. Oh wait, yes I can! Still, getting that much into the game that you break them is a little weird.
It's to be expected, especially with Wii Sports. There have been a couple Tennis matches where I've just gotten into it, and almost lost it.

There is one thing that I prefer about Nintendo, the fact they listen.
Yea, not to offend some fanboys, but Nintendo actually listens AND responds, unlike others. It's just awesomeness.
Seriously though, I've reefed pretty hard on my wiimote and the strap didn't go anywhere. These people REALLY had to chuck these things and probably several times.

It really doesn't have to be several times. Like I've said, when you get into the Tennis game, and you start swinging with everything you've got, I could easily throw it through the TV.

I dont think its the straps problem...i think its because many people do not use the strap and think " o i dont need it" and they lose the controller and get mad at nintendo for it...making stronger straps isnt going to make people smarter

I totally agree. I pulled pretty hard on the thing and it didn't break.

yep, no amount of wrist strap can fix peoples stupidiry, sorry but the wrist strap is strong enough, but people are lame. and no matter how awesome nintendo is, they cant fix that!

This is what I've been saying. It gets really annoying to hear people say they are busting their own TV's. I'm thinking they are just really pushing these straps to their limits. Or their IQ is just excessively low.

Nerf mad a set of playstation controllers ( saw it in last months GI ) maybe they should make Wiimotes too. So the people who can't hold onto a controller wont break anything
Or they should just stop playing.. That will solve the problem. The Wii-motes aren't meant to be used in a way in which you're throwing them through your T.V anywho.
well one of my remotes straps broke. i was playing baseball and when i swung, the strap at around my wrist became loose and when into my hand while swing and it snapped when i was finising my swing. the remote didn't fly but the strap broke. they should send me some new buffer straps for free... it was totally accidental. i mean, the strap around the wrist gets loose too easily because there is not way to secure it to a certain spot
if they're doing this, will they replace the old straps for us? For those of us who bought Wiis/Wiimotes prior to the new strap, I mean?
Yeah I think this is a recall and they need to send us new straps pronto. Although my six year old has no trouble hanging onto the remote....

I'm less worried about six year olds than I am my friends who might have a little too much to drink. motor skills go waaayyyy down and I want working wrist straps when it happens! (drunk wii sports is soooo fun!)

Interesting... So these people probably broke their strap in the same manner that you did, and then proceeded to throw it straight at the TV. It's not really the broken strap thing that's puzzling me anymore, it's how it went straight at the TVs with enough force to break the screen. I think I'm calling shenanigans on this one.

I was thinking of adding some fishing line as reinforcement... but then again, it would be a good excuse to get a new TV!

Has anyone replaced or reinforced the existing strap? There's a bunch of third-party ones on eBay right now.
I don't see myself as an 'idiot who swings the remote with lots of force', but the other day whilst playing a game of bowling my girlfriend decided to nudge my leg to put my swing off, and somehow the remote slipped out of my hand. I was gripping the remote firmly, especially after seeing what can happen and in the back of my mind knowing her LCD television is relatively new, but the cord snapped. The remote hit the wall and batteries flew everywhere! The remote still works perfectly though!

I just couldn't believe it - I didn't swing that hard, I didn't just let go, it slipped out so easily =/

Now I tend to grip with a little more force ... lol
I use a remote glove on all of my remotes, in order to keep track of which is which and because without them, the remote gets very sweaty and is more prone to slip. I'm assuming I have not had trouble because of the glove.
