I'm going to be setting up the Wii wireless network after Christmas, but I have a question or two. I currently have wired broadband throughout my home. When I buy the wireless router, does anything need to be done? Does the broadband automatically change over to WiFi?

Secondly, is there a list of available games to purchase through Wii Shop on the web?
It is both. The key is that you really can only have one router hooked up though for your whole house, so if you are replacing a full wired router the wireless one will just be put in its place. If you don't have enough ports on the wireless one (usually they come with enough for 4 wired devices), you will need to buy a switch perhaps.

Either way a wireless router can easily handle both the wired devices and the wireless ones simultaneously.

Another note, if your current router is too far away from where the Wii is to have a signal reach that far, there are some power boosting antennas you could use, OR, put a switch in where your current router is, for the current devices, and run a wire to the best location to set up your modem and wireless router.

If you can give some more details of your wired network and distances then I can give some better advice on what may be the best solution for you.
I have a question about networking. After I connected my wii to my router and did all the updates, I still can't see the news and forecast data.... they show up in wii menu, but i can't see the actual news about weather and news...
Nintendo has not yet made these channels available, so there is no data to be sent.

Right now I believe the next one to come 'online' is the news channel, sometime in January (I think on the 17th, but I'm not positive).

So basically,

Everything is normal and functioning with your Wii and when Nintendo actuallly enables these channels you will get more data such as news, weather, and more as they add additional channels.

Enjoy your Wii Smile
A way to test if it works, although the Wii automactically checks after making the first connection, to comfort yourself, is to try connecting to the Shop channel.
Currently, we only have one PC, and it's directly connected to the cable modem. I'll be attempting to get a wireless router, to run both, wireline and wireless, broadband connection. Wireline will go to the PC, being you can play games with wireless, and the wireless going to the Wii.

The Wii is about 10 feet from where the router will be. That shouldn't be a problem, it's just the fact that I need to know whether the wireless router will automatically convert the signal to WiFi or will it just stay as wireless broadband?
It IS Wi-Fi, I'm not exactly sure about how everything works, but any wire-less connection just works. Almost all routers work. I'm not sure If I turned this into the way that I wanted to type it, but it just is Wi-Fi.
if you have your cable set up to a PC directly, and you dont want to go have to get a new router and deal with all of that, u can get the WiFi broadcaster thingy, that plugs into a USB port on ur PC and broadcasts a WiFi signal for you wii or DS, nintendo makes one and so does a few other companies, might be a good alternative.

It's not that I'm not willing, it's just that I need to know which router to purchase. We'll also have a laptop PC after Christmas, and it would work for that aswell.

This will not be any problem then. Your setup will be like this:

1. 1 Ethernet cable going from cable modem to your input port on the back of your new wireless router.

2. 1 Ethernet cable going from the router to your PC.

Thats all you have to add and it will work for you. Of course you will also need to install the software and run the set-up on the Wii, but this should be relatively painless.

Hope this helps, so all you need to buy is a wireless router, if you look on here http://www.bensbargains.net you can find some for cheap sometimes.

Good luck Smile

Lastly, is there a site on the web that will show what is available for purchase on the Wii Shop?
