Do you think Nintendo has done a good job of getting non-gamers excited about the Wii?

I sure think so. None of my friends are gamers (it's always been a guilty pleasure of mine...) but now they want to come over and play with my Wii all the time! Most of them want to buy one themselves--I've even converted a Sony Fanboy! He decided to skip the PS3 and is getting a Wii!

Any success stories of converting non-gamers?
you converted a guy from sony to nintendo?!?!? wow. lol

but yeah i think Nintendo did a great job of getting Information about the system out, and not giving too much information out until pre-orders, at least they didnt do a dreamcast T_T (not enough advertisement lead to main destruction of the system)

Well many of my friends like Nintendo Now, they despised Gamecube..now They actually ask me questions about the Wii and stuff without me bringing the system up. (i think they secretly want to get it, but they dont want me to know so i can say i told you so..lol)
As we left our parent's (both in their 50's and haven't been into video games since their Intellivision) house with the Wii after the first time we took it over there, my mom said "My parents and family are going to have so much fun with this when they are in for the holidays!"

To me thats enough said Smile

I'll be surprised if their isn't a Wii under the tree at their house this Christmas.
although i see some people who normally dont play video games enjoy playin the wii i think its alil too early to say if their strategy is a complete success.
yea they def. accomplished their mission...everyone in my family loves it...although that only ranges from 11 to 60 years old...so over 60 i cant say....
I answered "No..", but not because I think they failed, but because it is way too early to tell.

Particularly since the console is so hard to find, the target group is unable to get a system since they will not be willing to wait forever in lines and go through the trouble of finding one. If they are willing then they are gamers already, and thereby not in the group.

So, I believe it will take another year until any of this can be sorted out enough to find a solution. Right now we are still in the launch window, the high panic fever where Ebay is King and we all are its peasants.
i know its early but "has nintendo successfully reached out to the non gaming community?"...the answer to THAT question is yes...is every person in the world gonna be looking at "wii news" for up to date news instead of CNN.....time will tell...
For me I can only say that so far they are accomplishing there mission but it's too early to tell. If they can make my wife play Video Games, she hates and despises all game systems I've ever owned, then they get my vote. She is absolutely in love with Wii Sports. The problem I worry about is, what happens when she get's tired of that. So for now they are winning but let's see if they can keep it up. I hope they can!
agreed, it is definitly to early to tell if they "finished the missioin", in reality the amount of sales they get at launch is miniscule compared to there later sales. BUT i do think they have done a fantastic job of reaching out to the non gamer, people i know who would never ever picked up any kind of game controller (xbox PS2 or GC) now love to play the wii. the only thing that makes me worried is that just cause some1 likes it, doesnt make them like it enough to go out and buy one themselves. but i think the overall turnout is a yes.
My fiance, before she layed eyes on the DS, had only ever played mario kart 64 (if you don't count solitare and minesweeper). Since she tried the ds, and we got the Wii, she's been playing both as much as I have (which is a LOT). For example, we've played 31 hrs of Wii since thursday night (night, not morning, no midnight launch for me), and at least half that has been played with her, or her playing by herself. I have to keep telling her to stop playing zelda so she doesnt get upto where i am and spoiler me!
I definitly do. My family members who probaly have never played a video game before, got really into it. If its like that with other famalies, then Nintendo has definitly accomplished their task.
well it got my step dad and my mom playing wii tennis and golf
I'm pretty sure they have...to a certain level, the next level they must beat is MY parents, if the Wii makes my parents play it, and actualy enjoy it, then it'll be a miracle, and Nintendo would be like...god converting athiests to christians!
Yes, with the caveat that now they have to hold on to them. Nintendo captured the imagination of non-gamers from what I've seen, and now they need to turn those imagined things into reality.
all my friends that have PS2's now want the wii! horray for nintendo!
They actually converted MY mom AND dad into gamers... My mom has only played Crash and Spryo on PS1, but never played them again, until now. As for my dad, he absoulutely hated videogames and just thought that I was wasting my life away playing them, until he found out about Wii Baseball (that's his favorite sport.)
My grandfater is addicted to the bowling.. and he HATES video games. And besides the fact that he hates video games.. he's my GRANDFATHER.. He's the least person I would expect to get addicted to anything inolving Nintendo. He now comes down into my basement and makes this gesture with his hand without saying a word to signify that he's ready to get down and bowl. It's really great to see him liking the Wiisports a lot though. I really think that Wiisports was the way for Nintendo to really reach out to the community. However not all games are made this way. You can't expect someone to just jump right in, like they do for Wisports, in games like Red Steel or Zelda etc.. So I suppose it can be somewhat misleading.
I'm still the token "crackpot nintendo fan" (I used to be the "crackpot microsoft fan" look how wrong they were)

They'll come over with time
I probably sold 3 of the suckers this weekend. I went with my girlfriend to one of her friends' house for a christmas party, decided to bring my Wii along. There were maybe ten people there, spent the whole night drinking, eating junk food, and playing the Wii. Half the fun was making a Mii for everyone Toungue We literally played with my Wii (snicker) for the entire night. Not a single person didn't *get* it, or have a hard time competing, and me and another guy were the only "gamers" there.

Just in general, I think based on the system and the way things are going, yes it has accomplished it's mission. The big question is, despite how much fun people may have with the game, are they going to go out and buy one of their own? Time will tell on that one.
