so I JUST hooked up my component cables. Excitement was running through my veins! and then?...

I put on Zelda--um... what difference do I see? maybe I should try another game...

I put on Wii Sports... things look decidedly worse!

WTF?! I'm running it on a 32 inch Sharp Aquos (LCD)

The Wii is set to 480p, and the TV display says the signal is 480p.

Maybe I just don't understand... maybe it looks better and I'm insane? but now everything has very jagged, twitchy edges and it looks crappy.

What's wrong? am I crazy?
oh, also, I just switched the Wii over to 480i, and I guess things are a little blurrier, but it looks LOADS better... WTF?
That's messed...I honestly have no idea...
okay, so I did a little research, and I guess jaggies are normal due to the resolution bump (i.e., things are sharper so I see the flaws sharper as well) but should it be so bad that I prefer 480i over 480p?
I noticed that too. I played with it for a few hours and noticed that a few things had slightly more detail. Definately not the sheer amazingness that everyone was hyping it up to be, but I think I like it.

yeah, textures are more crisp, but so are flaws... oh well. I shelled out $37.48 for the bloody things, I'm sure I'll get used to it haha

but I must say, it's kinda disappointing when you've been waiting for them to arrive and finally, when they do, you're so excited and you plug them in and... why do the bowling pins look like weird white blocks? and why is the lane spiky?!

meh, at least I'm not crazy. and I haven't had much of a chance to play for an extended period of time with them... we'll see i suppose

I bought Trauma Center for the Misses. It's the only game she plays and coincidently thee only game that doesn't support 480p. $50 well spent.

I LOOOOOOVE Trauma Center. second favorite game I bought (TP's #1 of course)

while we're on the subject... how am I supposed to know which games support 480p and/or 16:9? unless I've missed something big, I don't think the manuals say...

Trauma Center is the only one that doesn't go 480p. Everything else is gravy.
I read (according to Bozon's review on IGN) that Rampage isn't 480p or 16:9 compatible... but I don't see any indication one way or another on the packaging (or any other games for that matter) meh, whatever... and I've been running Rampage in 16:9 and I don't think I see any distortion... oh, so confused!
It probably just blows up the image, then cuts off the top and bottom.
*scratches head*

hmm... next weekend is gonna be a Wii-k end. I suppose I'll take the time to figure all this crap out
Try keeping the component cables connected but don't switch it to be EDTV in the Wii options. The colors will still look brighter and the images a pinch sharper but it kinda gives you an in between look that you might like better. I got my cables not knowing my TV didn't have Progressive Scan so I'm stuck with mine that way but it looks fine for me. Better color and a little sharper, not too jaggy or anything.
im in the same boat.

I got my cables yesterday and noticed virtually nothing on madden other than deeper colors.
Also, my tv is widescreen, and if i have the wii set on 16:9, the image is distorted, a circle looks like an egg Sad But if i have it on 4:3, it looks fine. WTF.
the only problem i have with component cables are the VC titles. it just comes up with a message on my tv as unsupported resolution.

appart from that the wii games look 100% better set to widescreen and edtv.

I'm not sure about Madden, but not all Wii games are widescreen so I guess one would expect some distortion when pulling a fullscreen game that way. I have trauma center, which isn't widescreen and even though it isn't as intense as what Madden is, I see no distortion.

Also, and this is not knocking your tv in anyway, we all know that different tv brands have different technology to change and pull 4:3 to 16:9. I wonder if you could use a zoom feature which would make the ratio look better.

yeah running my wii on my m8s tv we have to set the wii to 4:3 and select paneramic on the tv.
On my Samsung HDtv (which is widescreen) it's on it's default 16:9 setting and looks great.
Does anybody elses tv have a black bar at the top when playing thier Wii in widescreen?
Mine doesn't....what kind of TV do you have?

*you shouldn't have to do this, but if your widescreen tv does give you black bars, many times you can hit the aspect ration button again and get a zoom which will fill the screen
