I found this info on another site. Just thought some people on here might be interested, especially those who don't have their Wii yet. Source is below.
Okay, we're tagging this as a rumor, because DPAD themselves admit that a lot of details regarding this issue is yet to be confirmed. Here's the story:
DPAD claims to have acquired inside information from a Toys-R-Us manager, and this manager says that a Wii lover might be tempted with a "better system" come Spring 2007. The manager says that Nintendo will be "relaunching" the Wii console sometime before or at the beginning of Spring 2005, and during the relaunch, multiple colors (the black, red, and green ones you saw at E3) of Wiis should be available.
Moreover, the manager claims the new Wii will be sold at $200. Of course DPAD goes on to say that it is undetermined if the supposed new Wii will include the recently rumored technical upgrades.
Why would Nintendo hold back the colored Wiis? Well there's a lot of speculation on how well the Wii will do after the Holidays, a reasonable explanation would be that the colored, and cheaper Wiis can serve as sort of a second salvo to keep sales going, also if rumors are true then the attack of the colored Wiis should coincide with the launch of WiiConnect24 online service.
Why need a second salvo at that time? Well, Spring 2007 is the supposed date of the latest Halo public beta test. Nintendo needs attention. Halo eats attention. Colored Wiis are nice and pretty to look at, and should get some of the limelight. As always, this is just us making sure you're updated about what's hot on the rumor mill. We'll be sure to update you when anything that's confirmed leaks out.

but Nintendo's never really been one to try and sponge off others' hype. Nintendo usually does things by their own calendar, not based off another company's. the new GameCube colors came i think a year after the original release. i'd expect that if Nintendo is going to do new colors and a price drop, it'd likely happen next holiday season
I can't see Nintendo releasing a new Wii with different tech specs...i mean they're making money on the current one. Instead of different colored Wii's I'd rather see different colored base stands.
I just noticed something when I read this again. Take a look at this part:
The manager says that Nintendo will be "relaunching" the Wii console sometime before or at the beginning of Spring 2005, and during the relaunch, multiple colors (the black, red, and green ones you saw at E3) of Wiis should be available.
Spring 2005? I'm assuming that's a typo.
i saw that too. has to be typo. the rest of the article refers to 2007
Yeah.. or someone is a year behind? It happens to me all the time. I still thought we were in October but I'm straight now.
Anywho..Good news I suppose. Too bad all the colors were not present at launch. I still think my white Wii fits perfectly with everything black in my entertainment center.
Yeah, I'll keep my white one cause I love it a lot but different colored Wimotes would be nice. The reduction in price would be nice too for those who don't have it yet. Probably dropped the price fifty and it will ship without Wii Sports though. That's my guess anyways.
more likely they'd include a different game. depending on when it'd be released they could bundle Wii Play with it instead. that'd fit the colored wii-mote as well, since Wii Play's bundle has a red wii-mote doesn't it? i can't see a red Wii though. black, yes. silver/platinum, yes. maybe even the nasty GC purple. but Nintendo hasn't done flashy colors on many systems aside from the red DS with Mario Kart
No way they'd do a price drop this early. No need to, it's already so much cheaper than the other consoles. Spring 07 sounds good for the color launch though.
I will say that there is almost no way this will happen. With the success of the console, Nintendo could drop the price to $200 and still do well, but I doubt they will (it would be more likely to reduce the "cost" for the retailer to increase the profit margin, causing retailers to push the abundant Wii supply instead of the 360 or PS3).
You have to remember, Spring 07 sees Halo 3 beta release, but it's not the full game and it's not for sale in retail stores. It will get attention, sure, but not any sales. Nintendo has some heavy hitters lined up for that time, and I think it's a big reason they were "delayed". Mario Galaxy, SSBB, and Metroid 3 are all slated for that time period, as well as Connect24. Imagine if they enabled local Wii to Wii connectivity, wirelessly no less, through SSBB, and you could have the next "Halo Party" game.
Colored Wii's would/will come Holiday 07 to encourage more holiday sales.
Well, if they do reduce the the price, AND give out the new colours before spring, then I think i'll wait for that! Now to decide wich colour to get...I may stick with white ^_-.
you better keep me posted on this, i don't want to splurge my hard-waited cash this christmas when i could possibly wait a few more months for something more... how do i say it.... twii-mendous?? bad word.
i highly doubt the price is gonna drop...even if they severely streamline the making of it people are still gonna pay 250 so they wont lower it....and its just 50 bucks really so no big deal....as for colors i woulda got black if it was at launch but it wasnt....but if it was i wouldntve got this sweet dry erase board too haha
this seems doubtful to me..very
Well, for us Canadians, if its going down $50 for you, then it would be $220 for us, in any case, even if it doesn't go down, I may wait for the colours if they're that close.

I'm not sure if the U.S. Wii play/Wimote bundle will come with colored Wimotes but the Japanese one comes with white.
It is possible.
Gamecube Release: Nov, 18, 2001 $199
Price drop: May 23, 2002, $149
Price Drop: March 2003, $99
A colored Wii would be awesome but I've already got my Wii and I'm perfectly happy with it. Honestly, colors don't really matter. But a tech upgrade? Why would they do that and not give it to those who already have a wii?
