I was just watching South Park on Comedy Central when I saw what I believe to be the first REAL signs of war--to the public, not just gamers like us on the boards. First there was a PS3 ad. Immediately following was an ad for Rayman on the Wii, showcasing the Wii and the Wiimote, in effect, advertising the Wii. And then? ANOTHER PS3 ad. I think this is telling of something--these companies are getting ready to fight to the death with these consoles.

I dont think Nintendo is in this so called console war. It's entertainment deck vs. entertainment deck. Then theres the Wii with no competition. Give props to Nintendo for not going for the bait for the best graphics and focus more on gameplay.
well, yeah, but from a marketing stand point, the reason they're so different is because they want to stand out from the competition and win.

Yeah, I guessed the same thing as you IP. Southpark had a two part episode where Cartman tries to get the Nintendo Wii.

anyways as they said before Wii has no competition since its more for entertainment purpose rather than the graphic war between 360 and PS3.
It was funny, wasn't as good as the WoW episode, never have i laughed so much at southpark.
I dont think they know what other commercials are airing at what specific time. I think it was a case of them trying to sell to a certain audience and it just so happens both companies want the same audience at the same time.
I don't think Nintendo wants to be in the console wars, they are targeting a different audience but at the same time they are partly in the war. They are going in a different direction which is good because can you imagine how stale the industry would be in a few years time if all 3 companies had gone with graphics, people would be starting to get sick of the same old thing I think. Plus the Wii is the next step towards virtual reality which is where games will ultimately go.
Personally I think the whole console wars is a stupid thing. People should just buy the console they want and not worry about the others. This rivalry and competitivenss doesn't help anything

competition is what keeps the economy moving, so its not entirely bad

Over here in Australia we have mostly XB360 ads on. The occasional Wii ads (And I mean OCCASIONAL) and no PS3 since that isn't out here yet.
Microsoft and Sony own Australia though. Despite the fact how good the Wii sold at launch.
