I am yet to see this topic posted in the music section.
So here I am posting it, we all have favourite songs. But who here has songs they can connect you and relate to. For me its the most important part of me liking a song.
Who here can take songs and apply them to people they know or situations they've been through?
I'm interested to see as I have TONS of songs to apply to life and the people in it.
What about you guys?
hmmm, i have many of these as well. but as soon as someone brings this up I always go threw my winamp library listening to songs and their lyrics and match them with my life....

Easily the latest addition to my list was:
Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol.
You insult this song, I'll take you down. Its amazing.
I forget who sings it, but there's a country song called "Don't Laugh at Me".
When this song came out, I could relate to it so much. It talks about how different we all are, and some types of people others make fun off.
"I'm little boy with glasses, the one they call a geek
I'm the one they all make fun of, 'cause I've got braces on my teeth
And I know how it feels to cry myself to sleep..."
All of that I could relate to. See, I've been diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome as well as Bipolar disorder. I've also worn glasses since preschool, and had braces twice. I've been called retarded, geek, nerd, loser, and some other names I'd rather not revisit. Before I moved to my current location, I was the most unpopular boy in my school. I even had somebody send me an instant message that there were IM handles in the girls bathroom that girls could send hurtful messages to, and I was on there.
The chorus says:
"Don't laugh at me, don't call me names,
Don't get your pleasure from my pain;
In God's eyes, we're all the same,
Someday we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me."
It touched me so much to hear a song like this.
Today, this song is still up there on my favorite songs chart.

I definitely have a lot of songs that relate to me, even if it's just for that day or that hour. If I'm going through a rough time, if I'm enjoying the moment, if I'm being a goofball with my friends...there's always a song that reminds me of how much I have in life, good or bad.
Then there's the songs that are playing while I'm in a mood or experiencing a moment, and then every time i hear the song after that I associate it with my memory. Like...the song Rape Me by Nirvana was playing when I met my boyfriend face to face for the first time (long distance = sucky), and whenever I hear it I think how ironic it was.
Livin' on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
Because its both my favourite song and one of my best friends favourite songs. So now whenever it comes on you'll no doubt find us both singing along. Even out at the clubs, we both literally ran up onto the little stage thing so we could sing along to it. Why? Because we love "Livin' on a Prayer" its awesome.
Today was a good day, ice cube, is better than EVERYONE I SAY.
know what you mean, if i connect with a song it becomes a fave
listen mostly to alternative rock: i think Ben Folds sometimes seems to sing directly about my life
but all genres can affect me:
just heard the new ludacris song-runaway love and thought it was so powerful
flipping through channels and heard a country song "view from my front porch lookin in" and it just hit home...a few country songs can do that...drive by alan jackson, several dixie chicks tunes
and the Blues, that connects with me sometimes in a way no other genre can
Invincible by Muse.
If this song doesn't make you have hope for happiness, then I don't think many things in this world will.
