This was said so long ago who knows what they decide to do. There are fighting games out/coming out for Wii that have proven it can done even though there is more to SSBB controls than those other games.
For Smash I want to be able to sit down, memorise the button layout so I know exactly what to press to get the exact move I want to use.
I don't want to wave around a Wiimote/nunchuck combo in a game like Smash.
Yeah, you wouldn't want to use the wiimote for smash. Just try and imagine playing melee with it. The game just moves too fast, and the wiimote would not be responsive enough if it were to use gestures. Even being wireless, it may be too slow. I have friends that are so anal about the responsiveness of the GC controllers that they won't play with the wavebirds when they notice the slightest delay.
Let the Wiimote be a huge part of Metroid and Mario, let Smash pioneer the online that Nintendo has been talking about.
I completely agree. The wiimote will give you new ways to play these games.
Melee we already play endlessly - 5 or more years after its release.
All that smash needs now is online play.
And then we can make good challenges to friends in Austin, Austria, or Australia.
