anything special I need to do now?
I was prompted to update to be able to play games, so thats done. Now, does that update include the dreaded fall update that bricked so many systems? Or do I need to go somewhere on XBL to find that download?
Any other advice from you seasoned Xbox players would be greatly appreciated.
congrats. all firmware updates are prompted. you dont need to search for the updates, and you wont find any on the marketplace or any other place to download.
i'd suggest you invest in an extended warranty even though MS's standard warranty is for 1 year.
start downloading demos and if you ever plan on buying oblivion(or maybe even renting it), i'd suggest you download "mehrune's razor". it's been made free for a limited time(promo ends Dec. 31).

Anyone know if I can sign up for the warranty on-line? I tried looking, but came up empty. A pamphlet came in the box, but I don't want to send anything through the mail.
i mailed mine in. it did take a long while though. i dont think you can do it through a website, but you call call them. that's how one of my friends did it.
pretty sure you gotta mail it in. If there was any chance you got it from gamestop their instore warranty is far better IMO. My 360 was brick by the 1080p update. Took it to Gamestop and the switched it out right there and I just kept my HDD
