I haven't started downloading any games just yet for the VC. I was curious as to how big (on average) the files sizes are. I'm picking up an SD card and was curious if I should get a 2GB or if a 1GB would be big enough to hold a fair amount of games. Anyone have either of those sizes and maxed it out yet?
Well I've downloaded about 3 games: Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda NES and Gunstar Heroes. I barely used 150 blocks of the Nintendo Wii's 512MB memory.
Oh and FYI, you can't play VC games straight off the SD card, you have to transfer them to the Wii memory to play.
Seriously? That's pretty weak. Oh well. I guess I can't complain too much since I can play NES games without having to huff and puff into the cartridge. lol. Yeah...most people on here probably aren't old enough to get that...but I'm sure many do.
SM64 only takes 1 block. I was really surprised to see that.
How can it only take 1 block when its a 64 game. I thought those were all 64mb to 128 mb.
MAGIC!
Not that much. I have 4 Wii games and 2 Virtual Console games And I've not wasted that much. You'll be fine.

Through the magic of file compression.

64 only refers to the 64-bit processor within the N64, not the amount of memory on the cartridges.
Whats a good type of SD card so it can hold a lot of VC games?
cant you just delete VC games to create more space and if you want to play them again you can download them again 4 free??
yes, once you download them, it logs it for future use if you want to download it again. It works a lot like xbox arcade in that respect.

if anyone goes that route.. just consider the situation that might arise if you lose your internet connection for some reason and cant access the games you want. some random outage or if you take your Wii to someone elses house you may have to download them in advance.

if you do get a SD card, just get a 2gb one,.. DO NOT buy the Wii logo ones since they are several times more expensive than a typical SD card. the only difference is the color and wii logo. Functionally identical.
