Nope, that was just a rumor that was going around. The rumor had 3 games for free but it turned out to be false. I don't think they'll be giving any free VC games but I do think it would be a good idea to release one to wet everyone's appetite and maybe entice them to buy more VC games.

Even if they had free games they would probably be the lowest of the low that they're going to release. Something that no one would like. The best thing they could do was give you a code for one free download or something.

Nintendo knows what they are doing.... and all though it may suck we have to pay for each game, we still do and look at their profits rise up! If I was Nintendo I would do the same thing cept maybe on Christmas I would give everyone like 500 points
Yeah, I know they COULD give us a gift for our birthday or Christmas or Nintendo's birthday or the Wii's birthday or whatever but will they. So far the answer is no....
At least we don't have to do something like pay for an emulator of every system. That would just be excessive. But just think about how much money Nintendo must be making. With the VC all they really need to pay for is the servers. Porting over a 10+ year old game isn't that hard and doesn't require that many resources. Multiplatform developers do it all the time. Nintendo's laughing all the way to the bank with the Virtual Console.
