So, I'm on vacation right now in California at my girlfriend's house playing their Wii. My girlfriend's kid brother bought some games off of VC and they would cancel out the video on their TV. It was hooked up through component cables.

When the game launched (in this case, SF2), the game would flash the "you need a classic controller" screen, and then the screen would black out with a "no signal" prompt from my TV. A little googling would reveal to me that hooking up your Wii through component cables would sometimes screw up the screen. How, I don't know. So we hooked up the Wii via the regular AV cables and the VC games came up just fine.

So if there's anyone who's got their Wii hooked up via component cables and end up getting blank screens when launching VC games, hook it up with the regular AV cables.
Now I don't feel so bad that I don't use component cables.
$10 says the TV does not automatically switch from 480p to 480i, and the VC game uses 480i. When the system switches from 480p to 480i, and the TV doesn't, everything messes up.
Yeah, I'm betting the same thing that joker said is what's happening from the sound of it. Try it again and manually switch it and see if you still get that same problem.
Joker seems to havea valid point to me as well. I'd look into that if I had a fancy TV and fancy cables.
I think Joker is right on with this. My TV must switch automatically between 480p and 480i because I have my Wii hooked up with component, and my VC titles, as well as my non-480p games work just fine for me.
Well, color me pwned. =( Good stuff to know.
something tells me there is something wrong with teh teevee if it isn't switching automatically?
I haven't had any problems with VC games playing with the Component Cables. But I'll watch out for that.
