An unconfirmed source has revealed that Nintendo are currently working on a wireless version of their Nunchuck attachment for the Wii remote.

This comes after many complaints from gamers who feel that the dangling wire which links the two devices, simply distracts from gameplay, especially in games which require significant movement of the arms, such as Wii Boxing or Call of Duty 3.

The Wii Nunchuck gets it's name from the martial arts weapon, the ''Nunchucks'' because of the similarities in design; a chain/wire connects two heavier objects at either end. The wireless Nunchuck attachment will possibly undergo a name-change to make sense.

There's no reason for Nintendo not to make future wireless devices for the Wiimote - a wireless reciever would plug into the remote in place of any wires linking the two. Communications between Wiimote and Console would be as normal. The downside to this is the added drain on batteries, though with Nintendo's track record with their previous wireless technologies, we're sure they will leap this hurdle.

Nintendo were unable to comment at the time of press.

Although no official announcements have been made, we will certainly be following this story closely and hope to hear from Nintendo soon regarding the matter.

That would be sweet, but i paid all that money for my other 3 Sad
I should get that once I get an extra Wiimote.
I have yet to have problems with the nunchuk's wire. But a wireless nunchuk sounds cool!

If this is all true then ill probably get it for my controller that comes with Wii Play.
To me it looks like a rumor. Sorry to be negative, it's just the "unconfirmed source", and on Digg it was titled as a rumor.

sorry for double post..o and i need to add..you'd have to wear to wrist straps...double the accidents..this to em seems rubiish
The wire annoys me in some Rayman Minigames.

So I hope this turns out to be reality, but at the moment its just a rumour.
Even if this comes to pass I will stick with my wired ones purely for the battery savings.
i hope this comes true, in the rayman games where u need to move the controllers up and down very quickly this is a pain, same goes for CoD3. i have 1 extra nunchuck, but would wait to buy these. and yes it is a rumor, but one can still hope =)
Make it a wireless and have forcefeedback and I'll think about buying new nunchucks. Right now it doesn't concern me since most games are being made with the idea that the remote is attached to the nunchuck via a wire so there's no need to ever have to seperate the controllers further apart then the wire permits.
sounds fandidilytastic
True there isn't really a *NEED* but it'd be so much more convenient.
whats the point of a wireless numchuck i mean the wire is long enough its not like you cant reach things. there is no point in it i mean how far to you want to put your arms apart
