Sorry if there's already a thread on this, but I was curious as to when the Wii Lan Adapter would be available in Australia and how much it will cost. Anyone have any ideas?
ANY OTHER USB LAN ADAPTER WILL WORK. A CONFIRMED MODEL WAS POSTED SOMEWHERE, but i forget.
you should be able to spend around twenty bucks for a working model.
I'd like to know too morph_ball... but don't go holding your breath since you Aussie like myself.
Nintendo of Australia suck.
NOT all USB LAN adaptors work! I tried mine and some one else's before i got a wireless router and they did not work. Nintendo said themselves that only Nintendo supported LAN adaptors would work (

It is located midway down the page under wired routers
tvirus is right, not all will work but you can check the list that he provided and there are some others that actually work but have not been confirmed. It woud help if anyone out there uses one that is not on the list and would report it here for others to see.

I can only confirm that, I've tried three, none worked. I think what these devices need is to support the USB no driver support. I don't know what it's called, but basically it enables you to use the device on a WinXP PC without having a driver for it. Like if you get PS/2 (as in the "old" mouse and keyboard connectors) to USB which often do not require a driver because they follow a standard... usually companies do not advertise this.
KINAMAX USB 2.0 to RJ45 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Network Adapter.
apparently, there is different versions of this same adapter that may or may not work. it just has to look the same as the one pictured.
just get a wifi usb adapter
do you mean for the computer? because, some people don't want to have to turn on the pc every time they want to get the wii online, and what about the mac users?
yea thats true, but my computers on 24/7 pretty much anyways. and the only other way right now is to use a wireless router, but that usb ethrenet cord should be coming out soon.
and what about the mac users?
Mac users are lucky because their OS supports something Windows doesn't. Setting your WiFi card into Master/Infrastructure/access point mode which basically is what a WiFi router is. It's like ad hoc, just your computer is "becoming" a router. Some cards can do this under Windows but only with special drivers and such. Linux, same thing, if you have a card that uses this driver for instance, you'll be able to set it to master mode no worries.
That's also a reason as to why the Adapter is Windows only... Mac can do this, and Linux support is always out of question...
The nintendo America USB lan adapter shipped 3-6 days ago. Gonintendo.com and it will be like 10-20 pages back somone got theirs
oh, it's out already? i wasn't paying attention.
