ill post part of the interview here but ill add the link for the full story.........
The Mercury News also asked Gates how he felt about the Nintendo Wii, but as it turns out Bill doesn't have much to say on the subject. He stated that to his mind Sony was always the direct competitor, and that without next-gen graphics the novelty of Wii's unique controller would probably wear off soon.......

I love xbox live but only the FPS is what MS has going for it imo it has been like that since the orginal xbox with the big controllerPh43r M3h
Of course Gates would dismiss it, he is Bill Gates.

XB360 is the FPS console, but apparently thats all it needs to stay afloat, because its doing good.
pretty much.

Nintendo arleady staed that they arent a direct competitive challenge towards 360 and PS3, but in terms of sales.. Gates should worry considering they are just about 15%-20% of their goal of 9 million units worldwide while the Wii is hitting its 3 million mark.

In the long run will the Wii last?

Hopefully.

I dont see it flopping anytime soon.

The 360 on the other hand... it will last as long as it wants. Same with PS3... with the knowledge that Sony loves to take what isnt theirs and make it the same: Marketplace, Free Wi Fi Gaming, HDD.... ect.
figures, bill gates is the richest guy in the world, he can say that, any one can but since he's rich it can get others to approve. I am always loyal to Wii and Nintendo
gates was speechless. wii is number one
Reading this post after the other post with the video of Bill Gates saying how the Wii is his competition is funny. LMAO at the contrast. Toungue
I agree with him. Nintendo isn't a direct competitor. We didn't buy the wii for high def. gaming. We bought it for the new gameplay mechanics. It's really hard to really compare the Wii to any of the other systems cuz the Wii is just so damn unique it its own right. I mean when i look at warioware im like wtf?
I feal like saying something, but all I got to say is, I really don't think that the Wii will wear off just because it doesn't have good graphics, i'm thinking the the Xbox 360 is wearing off! (Come on, you gotta pay for online services?)
We can't be sure how long the Wii will last at this stage. At the moment, its fresh and new. And that has given it life. If the titles can support the innovative controls then it'll do fine. But if they slow down or start becoming mere second-rate ports then the Wii is in trouble.
they arent next gen. graphics, but they deffenitly are an improvment and are just a little less than 360 and ps3 graphics, but graphics arent everything either the controller and makes the gameplay soo much more fun.
High poly graphics mean NOTHING. IF I want something to look real I'll go live life like a normal person, not vicariously through a machine.

I want my Wii for what I care for most, and that's gameplay quality. That's all that should really count. Too many people succumb to a level of graphical shallowness. I honestly have more fun with my NES than I ever did with Xbox.

Too many people have come to take online play and high end graphics for granted and thats all they really care for it seems. I mean, online play is what's up, but it's not everything. Look at WoW, just another excuse for people to become fatter, dumber, and socially inept.
yea exactly. good graphics are nice, but ps3 and 360 forgot about fun. wii still got the good graphics and fun. and its only $320! (canadian)
Online is pushing the XBox, Graphics is pushing the PS3 and gameplay is pushing the Wii. Each one has their selling point, however we have to see if that selling point can outlast the others. For the PS3 they might have the best graphics but look what good it's doing for them now....none. XBox360 has been/is still seeing success with LIVE. The Wii is the hottest thing going right now and I hope it can keep it up. Time will tell.
