what if I wanted to keep the remote in good condition?
like not splitting the thing open?
emm... prize the screw out and then replace it after with a regular screw
I honestly can't help you there, I took the screws out of my xbox controller then filled the gaps with hot glue after

Gah, I wish I had never seen that. Now I'm going to be tempted to do it myself (I've added LEDs to my mouse and some other stuff already, so I've got the technical skill), but I don't want to risk screwing up my lone Wiimote.
Then wait until you have all four.

And away is your garantee!
My controller has a better mod. It can turn into a bouqet of flowers.
mine makes chicken wings

my xbox controller connects to the pc AND i stuck an extra usb port on the memory card hole.
i also do this with an xbox360 controller.
i dont even OWN an xbox!
btw, my expert eyes are telling me that there are TWO LED'S under the a button, NOT 4.
Lol tight

As the late Borat would say:
Niiiice.
so, i opened up the remote screws with a flathead screwdriver, and I noticed that the led's ARE NOT regular size. they are these... miniscule rectangles that emit a lot of light. would it be safe to take these off and solder larger lights in their places?

Look closer then, gawsh
but srsly, there are four, Bi-luminous LEDs usually require controller ICs and are way to expensive for a simple controller mod. That and you can see from shadows where the lights are

You'll find those at your american equivilent of maplins, they're just square LEDs
note: they are VERY tiny.
