The MD of US development studio Valve Corporation has labelled Sony’s PlayStation 3 “a total disaster” and predicted that Nintendo’s Wii will win the next-gen console battle.
Speaking to Game Informer magazine, Gabe Newell suggested that Sony should scrap plans to release PS3 and develop an entirely new system.

“The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted,” said Newell. “I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a ‘do over’. Just say, ‘This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.’”

Newell reserved special praise for the Wii, which he said would outsell Microsoft’s Xbox 360 by next Christmas.

“The happy story is the Wii,” he added. “I’m betting that by Christmas of next year, the Wii has a larger installed base than the 360. Other people think I’m crazy. I really like everything that Nintendo is doing."

Newell is a co-founder of Valve, which made its name by developing the multi-award wining Half Life and Source engine. More recently, it’s become equally known for its Steam digital download service, which has attracted publishers including EA, Activision and Take 2 to sign up.

In December, the firm signed an in-game advertising deal for Counter Strike with IGA, which was billed by the two companies as one of the biggest of its kind.

Wow, Valve dissing the PS3. C'mon, give us CS online for Wii. That would be a killer game to have to make the Wii's online stronger. Newer maps, ability to create and download maps, I can see it now. Let this happen.
how about a good version of Half Life....I'll let you keep counter strike Wink
i'm with green. i've been trying to find a way to play Half-Life 2 for ages. they port that to the Wii and i'm sold in a heartbeat
Well there is apparentrly a high profile shooter being specially developed for the Wii, just remember that.... >_>
I'm all in for some counter-strike on the wii. That would be a blast. Just let me macro my buys to the - button and I will be good to go. I'll take cs 1.6, as it is. Don't care if it looks like crap to what the wii can do.

As of right now there's no announcement of any online FPS for Wii though. The cat is pretty much out of the bag as far as why no games were online at launch, and if you're late to the party we can catch you up by simply saying "Nintendo wasn't ready" and leave it at that, but we also know that online is on the way, and from the sounds of it the Wii will be getting some support. Obviously our mouths are sealed right now, but let's just say we're hearing rumblings of Wii-specific versions of at least one of the main FPS franchises out there. Oh, and when we say "Wii-specific" we don't mean tacked on controls that claim to make it a new experience. We're talking an immersive, competitive experience built from the ground up for Wii. Here's hoping everything works out as planned, as I look forward to be fragging each and every one of you ASAP.

i don't really see anything on Valve's site about the Wii
There we go, I was close. Rumblings of a "Main FPS franchise" made for the Wii. There are many options.
No one plays(ed) Counter-Strike Open Source?
