i have just downloaded onto my wii super mario 64, my first vc game, and to my shock it wouldnt play with my gamecube controller and kept saying i needed a classic controller, plz help.
I thought you can only use the classic controller on most non-NES games from the VC? Go buy the classic controller, it'd be so much better for SNES games anyways, and that's where it's really at.
Well, if it says that you should use the classic... Why don't you?
Hmm strange i remember SM64 saying it needed Classic or Gamecube... I havent downloaded it though because i have it for n64 Toungue
i looked again on wii shop channel, it says classic OR gamecube, not both... i still cant get it to use my gcube controller and dont want to spend a fortune on 4 classic controllers when i have 4 perfectlly working gamecube controllers that work fine for backward compatible cube games

to use a gamecube controller you have to press & hold "R" when you load the game (just after you click start or whetever in the channel menu). Im sure that mario 64 is for both classic controller & Gamecube controller

it is both and im trying to hold r but i dont know wen to
I just plug my GC controller in, start up the wii, hit SM64 and everything works fine...
do you have to hold any buttons doown, is your an official one, a wavebird, or another type
I played SM64 with a GC controller. I just plugged it in when in the channels menu and selected the game. The "Need Classic Controller" screen flashed for a second and then the game loaded normally. I have heard that you need to press L or R to activate the GameCube controller like Jennings said.
A fortune? You can get four of them for $80 (that is...if you can find them). And you can probably get $20 or maybe a little more for the ones you have. Cough up a few bucks.
