Hello.
As most of you know, I am an owner of both an Xbox 360, and a Wii. I enjoy playing video games very much. I'll first state that my Wii will never go anywhere, and I will never get rid of it (at least durring this generation), and that it will always remain one of the two consoles I own. However, between Sony and MS, there aren't enough exclusives for me to justify the cost of keeping and operating two systems.
Last March, I purchased a Premium Xbox 360 console from Toys R' Us website. So far my relationship with it has been so-so. The hardware, I must say, is quite pitiful. While the system does have a nice appearance (which is still bested by the PS3), it operates like complete and utter crap. The buttons on the console feel loose, and the drive no longer operates when it is vertical. The back of the console is half closed, and it operates loud, especially when a game DVD-9 disc is in. (360 only. Xbox games are relatively quiet). It also runs hot (which is fine).
The games: Gears of War is pretty good, Halo 3 looks nice, but honestly, I wasn't that big of a fan of Halo 2. After this, anyhow, there will be no more halo. Other than that, there's not many exclusives that I really want from this console. Oblivion, the only game I purchased that I really liked so far, is coming to the PS3. DOA 4 will be bested by VF5.
PS3, resistance, I love it, plus theres FFXIII, KHIII, MGS IIII and so many other great legacy games that continue to come on. I also think in the end, with SIXAXIS and the power of the PS3 it will be better overall in terms of game quality. Let's not forget free online vs Pay online.
Hardware: 360 is pretty limited in terms of what it can do. To bring it up to PS3 level would require the purchase of an HD-DVD drive for movie standards. However, Blu-Ray is undoubtedly far more advanced, ahead in terms of movie releases, and ultimately, the format I really want. It also has better media managing systems and things like free web browsers and whatnot. It seems like it will be better in that respect, plus lack MS-DRM. The PS3 runs quiet, and also has expansion capibilities. For example, being a geek, I'd love to install an OS on my console. I would put it to good use. Additionally, the backwards compatibility on the PS3 is far superior to that of the Xbox 360. Let's not forget HDMI, card readers, and built in wi-fi.
Zephyr: As it seems almost confirmed, that means I will have to shell out more money for a new 360, and although with trading in my 360 for this will be less, it pisses me off. I really feel ripped by Microsoft to do this and I really don't know that I want to, even though it has HDMI which I can use, and HD-DVD built in.
So as you've seen what may feel like a justification for trading in my 360 (for $220), and getting a PS3, it's just my recent thoughts on the issue, I don't want to start a debate, I want honest input where I can truthfully discuss these and new thoughs about such a switch (the opposing views, should they exist). I hope fanboyism can stay out of this, and I can achieve my ultimate goal of picking what is right. I cannot justify having both consoles, nor afford it, so I must pick only one.
With all this in mind, thank you for your help and input, I look forward to making a move.
