Imagine that Nintendo made a Zelda MMORPG....

Link is now the ruler of Hyrule with Zelda by his side. He is no longer the young man who goes fighting to save the kingdom, but Gannon is back and ready to plung the world you love into complete darkness.

You have a choice. Choose from 5 different groups of Hyrule inhabitants to fight on the side of the triforce, or choose 5 group types to fight on the side of Gannon to rid the world of the light. Plus there are 4 different types of people who are in the middle. You choose as you go as to what you want to do or whom you will fight beside....would this work? Is it time to allow Link a part of the story but not the lead? Is it time to fight for something more then Zelda?

Remember, with the Wii24Connect this game couple be updated very easily. New area, new weapons, new magic to be learned. The possibilities are endless.
Wiiconnect is powerful but constantly send updates even in like the next 10 years i doubt but i would deffinately look at it.
Imagine if on a bi-monthy basis you could have the option to buy a new area of Hyrule. For a very reasonable price of course Smile I think that's where people might actually start buying armours, weapons, and spells that others have. now when i say buy, i mean with game money, doing it the other way can create problems.
could you be a Zora though? that would pwn!
It would be freaking awsome and I hope that they are gonna do it!
Nintendo would just be making some more money and everyone needs some more of THAT
Yes we all need money! Nintendo needs to give away money! Or Opera Or Bill Gates!
no doubt, if nintendo did this, it would rock Smile
They'd have to neglect their Friend Code System if they were to make one.

I think the Friend Codes work on the Handheld OK, but homeconsoles with Net connection will not require it. As an Option it'd be fine. (You know, under Parental Lock)
This would be crazy good. With all the different races classes etc...
it would be awesome and remember miyamoto or someone said that twilight princess will be the last zelda game of its kind... think about it, who knows what they're going to do with zelda after it
agreed morph_ball. this could be just the beginning of what we've seen. plus, now that nintendo will be using a full-size dvd, they would easily be able to create a huge zelda role playing game for the first time ever.
This game could work provided it was done well, Zelda would be a big title to try and put online and if they were going to do it I'd want them to get more experience with original online ideas first rather than diving in and possibly ruining the possibilities the game may have.
They most likely would make it but if some fans cant be Link then they will be really really ANgry.
I know, but fans need to accept it. I say no playing as already exhisting characters, its the only way to avoid this game sucking if they do it.

Make people build their characters and go from there... which is the original idea presented in this thread and it sounds good... if executed properly.
It be impossible for an MMO to have pre existing characters available to the masses. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to build a character which appears to be Link in every possible way though.
This is a concept I've been thinking of for a couple years. It's pretty simple, actually.

1. You've got 5 races players can choose from: Gerudo, Goron, Zora, those tree kids from Ocarina, and Hyrulians. You take a D&D approach to them (Gerudo and Hyrulians are kinda like humans - no bonuses or penalties), Zora are lithe like elves, Gorons are tough like dwarves, and the tree kids are like halflings or gnomes.

2. You create distinct classes, ranging from defensive or offensive spell casting to melee combat. You add "tech trees" to help a character specialize.

3. You add the option of owning your own horse and learning mounted combat (be it archer or sword).

4. Further expansions could add naval combat (ship vs. ship), in the vein of Wind Waker.

Thats good, but basically the same as every other MMOG ever made, Miyamoto would need to do some really unique stuff to prevent it from runing the series, plus i'd rather it be pay monthly (or similar) than buy new areas, because pay monthly doesn't suffer from the "too many n00b" syndrome of games like runescape

True, in that it seems more like WOW in Hyrule, but that game doesn't have mounted combat or naval combat. Still, there are other things that could be done too.
