HD isnt needed. But like I siad.. it would be nice to have. I rather just have the DVD playback function more then anything else.
But that doesnt even matter since i have a 360
if they made it HD i dont think they could send it through wiiconnect24. youll probably need some extra hardware in there, and i hope the system wouldnt increase in size but it probably would. also what are the component cables for then if its not HD? i thought the point of the cables were to make it HD.
If there will be a HD Wii it's most likely to be part of the new DVD Wii. But I doubt it, didn't Miyamoto say something about saving HD for the next gen.
Would an HD Wii cost more? what about just a DVD playing wii?
i thoguht using the component cables make it hd
Nah they make it 480p which is EDTV as opposed to 480i which is SDTV
HDTV is 720p, 1080i and 1080p

and you can only get HDTV (720p) if your system has the certain hardware installed like 360 and ps3?

Yea, it needs optimally a scaler, but you also need hardware powerful enough to put that out. The Wii doesn't have the power to do that without skipping.
not necessarily, its all up to how much stress the current GPU can take,
It could easily be updated to support 1080p if they wanted to, but the fact is, at that resolution the chip would burn out in a matter of seconds because the wii has only one fan
well w/e im fine with 480p looks great to me and the remote makes it so much fun anyways. 360 and ps3 only have graphics atleast wii has decent realistic graphics and a brand new control scheme that works great.

But it couldn't. It has nothing to do with heat, the chip isn't powerful, the loads required for it to take in would take so long to process you'd get like 1 FPS.
Think about it, how can a 233 MHz GPU output 1080p, realistically, without a scaler too.
yeah I was referring to an overclock, It would easily be possible via an update. You could overclock it to 700Mhz and have it do anything (it already supports PS2.0 so HDR and FSAA would be possible) but the fact is it would burn out before the system loaded up

Now, remember the Sega Genesis? And remeber that it has add ons to make it 32 bit, well, maybe the could do the same thing for 1080p for the Wii (Or at least 720i.) and this add on would have a fan on it, or if not, the paklage would come with a cooling stand like the Xbox 360 has.
I guess I'd like to see an HD Wii... but I don't want it released seeing as I've already sent myself to the poorhouse paying for my Wii and I don't need to spend even MORE money
oh, and @Kasaioni
I love Jonathan in your sig hahaha
Korn is underrated because of their mainstream success. I like them, at least...
As long as it avoids melting things (like discs and tabletops)... :-)

and remember the sega genisis stunk...
i for one would just like to enjoy my Wii for a few years without having to buy another piece of hardware
since i dont have an HD set yet, i dont feel like i am missing out on anything

It would make more sense to save HD for the next gen anyhow.
Right now the PS3 is ahead of its time with what they wanna bring to the table. It is nowhere near cost effective. That's why it's a flop, not because it sucks, but because nobody but hardcore gamers would in their right mind drop that kind of cash on something that doesn't give you your bang for your buck. BluRay? Get serious...more like BluGAY.
That aside, with the minute percentage of consumers that own HD ready monitors and televisions, there's not much logic in pushing a console that if focused toward the HD market. It's really not something the majority cares about at this point in time. I own an HDTV and I don't even care. It's all about having fun.
Lastly, you have to realize the chances of something better in digital imaging coming out in the next few years are very high, so in my opinion to focus around HD level graphics is sort of jumping the gun when the format hasn't even captivated a large chunk of the market.
I recon with a lot of work you could hack your wii up and get it to output 720p and still work.
It would be a LOT of work though

True, it sucked, I guess we doon't want the Wii to turn into a bluck full-of-add-ons peice of crap.
Only time will tell! but it looks like we can get some kind of HD for the wii with an update! I wouldn't buy and HD wii! and I have and HD-TV!
