We know Nintendo’s planning special editions of the Wii. For a start they’ve promised a DVD playing version will hit Japan before too long, but now it looks like they’ve got designs for a HD version up their sleeves too.

Trouble is, the head honcho of Nintendo America doesn’t see the point in releasing it until more people have HD-ready TV sets.

Confuses me that they want to release a whole new Wii for HD. Couldn't they just implement it through WiiConnect24?

makes no real sense either. Nintendo is finally hearing the cries for a unit that just doesnt play video games, I honestly love the 360 because it can DO MORE then the average video gaming console. If I wanted strictly gaming pick up a board game, the future is multimedia.
Does the word scaler mean anything? How about more hardware needed to output hd.
Would you buy an HD Wii? I probably would...
I would since I havent gotten my Wii yet, its good to get all the fact before hand.

But if this new Wii is out by SSBB... then I guess they will luck out.
i don't see how they could just use a software update to implement hd.
i wouldnt buy it since i dont have an hdtv
Try a title such as "Nintendo's Next Console To Have HD?", and the answer would be 'possibly'.

Yeah, Nintendo (I forget who specifically stated it) said that they didn't have enough time to do HD with the Wii. So expect it in their next one.

360 did it when they went to 1080p...but then again they already had 720p so it might be a different animal, not sure.

i thought the point of the wii was to have fun, not win any graphics wars...? i guess even with HD they wouldn't be winning any wars against either of the other next-gen's but it's still a great machine

ATI made the graphics chip for the Wii and they'be been outputing HD for quite a long time. I'm sure they're chip can do it.
Maybe we will get HD in the future but not just yet...Wont be fair and I dont own a HD TV...Neither does 95.9 procent of europe...
Here less than 5% of the population have HD TVs. We don't even have HD DVDs for sale. So things like HD players and Blu-Ray players won't have a chance of being a selling point here. Our only cable provider doesn't have a HD signal as well so having a HD TV here is pretty pointless. I already have my Wii and wouldn't buy another just for HD but if I didn't already have one then I'd get it just in case I got a HD TV. Toungue
crazy europeans and their scart cables!!!
just trying to keep the conversation going... :3
I would love a software upgrade to HD but I wouldn't buy a whole new box for HD capability. I have an HD and the 360 looks great on it but I don't think I'd go for the Wii in HD after I just bought one.
@Big Al Nope, I'm not in the U.K. I'm living in Thailand.

Same as above, if possible an update would be nice but not sure if it is.
Perhaps they could do an optional add-on, something like the 360 HD DVD player (or hard drive)?
I deffenetly wouldn't buy a new HD wii. If it was an upgrade then maybe when i got an HD TV. Plus getting a Wii is hard enough.
Nintendo's next system will undoubtedly be HD compatible since at least in the US by the time they release it TV will be broadcasted in HD, and thus everyone will have to have some way to receive that data.
The wii could techincally get 720p via an update but that would probably cause a drop in frame rate.

And the only way to add HD output is to upgrade the internal Graphics Chip. I.E. a new Sku
i dont have HDTV, but i would so buy this, a hdtv and apple tv too for good measure.
