Full Version: Why did you choose wii over other platforms?

Hi all. This is my first post and I was wonderring why you chose wii over the competition. My reasons are 3 fold. Firstly, the other systems (Xbox, Sony) are great systems but I was looking for something new and innovative and wii definitely fit the bill. Second, I have been a hardcore Nintendo player since the first console came out (Please bring Castlevania back to wii) and have never strayed from my gaming "roots". Lastly, I am not cheap by any means, but if I am going to pay that kind of money (Xbox 360, Sony 3) for a system, I will simply build another computer which would smoke the two of them with the money. I think Nintendo is dead on the money as gamers NEEDED something new. Any thoughts?
Shouldn't this be in general gaming or Wii?

I bought it for the new control style and Zelda. I was planning on LoZ: TP being my last hurrah in the gaming industry (on GC), but then I saw the controls and Wii Sports and was reeled back in. Damn you nintendo! Wii Sports is great and so is Zelda. It's even gone so far as to peak my interest back in standard gaming (360).

Yeah, I guess it should have been in that forum. Sorry (newbie).

weird...i felt exactly the same way, was done with gaming then started hearing about this revolution and the more i read the more i was sucked back in and now i am back

would never had happenned with PS or xbox

Wrong forum! Willy
I have always sucked at games, so when I realized how fun the Wii could be to play I knew I had to have one. I also get very angry while I am losing, but I can take out the aggression in some boxing or Madden.
I've been a Nintendo fanboy since the original NES back in the day. Had every single one of their systems (some two times over). I thought I was done with gaming, until I started to hear the rumors of the Wii coming up in the bellies of the interweb. Camped out for one on launch day, and have been playing it ever since.

It also helped me get back into gaming, and by doing so I got a 360 as well. It's just something else to help pass the time. Plus, it's fun!

Chill man. I'm new here and said I was sorry. Toungue

You're wrong about the PC aspect. Current gen gaming consoles are so much more powerful than the current PC platform, and the PC cannot touch the power of the cell or the Xeneon. Even a $6,000 PC wouldn't produce the graphics. Lets also remember, a $400 PC would suck.

I didn't choose Wii over other platforms, Xbox 360 is my main console, Wii is secondary for the Nintendo exclusives, and few other cool Wii exclusives. Any cross platform games, and the majority of games, I will play on my 360.
Okay, its moved to the right area.

As for why I picked the Wii over the other consoles... well simply because of the games. Metroid, Mario, Smash, DK, Kirby, F-Zero, Starfox will always be my favourite franchises and nothing XB360 or PS3 could do would match them. The controls just turned out to be an added bonus, so I picked the Wii as my primary console. With PS3 and XB360 both tied for my secondary.
For me it was the remote and motion sensing. It really made me realise how stale things had gotten. PS3 and 360 play the same as they would on their predecessors (almost identical controllers) just with flashy graphic upgrades.

lol I wasn't freaking out Toungue I just like that smiley. Toungue

The reason I bought the Wii over the other consoles is because first off I've been with Nintendo for as long as I can remember so I love the games, not to mention Nintendo was doing something to finally change the gameplay and make the experience as fun as possible. While the other systems really didn't do anything different.

I got mine for a few reasons. First off is price. I paid for everything Wii-related on my own money (I'm young and don't have a full time job just yet). 250 dollars is a lot cheaper than 400 dollars, let alone 500/600. The core 360 didn't really appeal to me.
It also offered me something new. I've owned three consoles in my life. A NES (it was my older brothers but we all shared it. Then my mom gave it away when it broke, something I regret letting her do), a PS2, and now the Wii. The first two didn't offer me anything new except fancier graphics for the PS2. Getting a 360 or a PS3 would be just the same, fancier graphics, although online would be good. The Wii controller offered me something new.
Also, the virtual console. Not owning a Nintendo console since the NES left me feeling left out, so the virtual console is allowing me to repurchase all the games I missed out on.
Lastly, the games. Zelda, Metroid, Brawl, Galaxy, and some other 3rd party stuff. Nuff Said.
I still prefer regular controllers, good graphics, and hardcore shooters, and controller based sports. The Wii is for fun and Nintendo exclusives.

The DS, however, is my main (and only) portable.

I didn't mean any disrespect to Xbox or sony for that matter. But do you really think it would cost $6,000.00 in computer upgrades to equal a $400.00 Xbox graphics? I have built many pc's and will disagree with your statement. My brother-inlaw has the Xbox system and you are right, it does rock, but in my opinion, for that kind of money I will go with an ATI 1 gig vid card with 1 gig of ram in an intel dual processor and voila....killer game machine for the same price. All I wanted to say is in my opinion, Sony and Microsoft are charging WAAAAAY too much for the same old same old games with a better look. At least Nintendo wanted to bring a new twist to the table at an affordable price.

I agree with you ragin, IMO a good gaming computer is probably the best thing out there. (other then the Wii of course! Big Grin) Computer games are just so awesome. Although I still would like a 360.
I am a Nintendo fanboy and i loved the new wii mote! What more can one say?
