In the beginning there was a beautiful story, a novel called Lord of the Rings written by J.R.R Tolkien. It had everything a good story should have, and after much time it became a film.
Originally it was going to be a two movie thing (WTF @ that) but New Line wanted a trilogy (which is clearly more logical) and Peter Jackson did so.
Now what we have are three of the most amazing, beautiful and well-made films of modern cinema (Not that they'd have much competition. Burn on modern films which suck)
Come here to discuss the masterpieces.
They had it all.
I actually started joining forums because of Lord of the Rings. I played the Games Workshop Strategy Battle Game. I must say Lord of the Rings is the greatest book and movies accomplishment ever. IMO
I was a little dissapointed that Tom Bombadillo wasn't in the movies. He was cool.
I can't wait for the Hobbit. That'll rule!

I didn't mind Tom Bombadilo not being in there, considering how long the films were in the end I can see why they would have left him out lol, uber long films.
They are definitely the best worked book-to-movie examples ever.
The Hobbit will only rule if it is made by Peter Jackson, and currently they aren't sure if that'll happen.
Yeah, i've heard that P.J might not be doing them. That would royally suck!
The only reason I wanted Tom to be in it is because I always loved his little songs

dumb reason but hey watcha gonna do eh?
Good ol' Tom's songs. I wouldn't have minded an homage to him in the Extended Editions (unless there is one and I've overlooked it)
If Peter Jackson doesn't make the Hobbit I'll be sad.
Just like the stories were Tolkien's masterpiece, the movies are Jackson's.
That's so true. Jacksons masterpiece is the Lord of the Rings and it would be a travesty not to let him be the one to do the Hobbit.
The Hobbit with no Jackson = flop.
Diffenetly. P.J makes the films amazing! Pllus I hope They keep Sir Ian for Gandalf, it just wouldn't be the same with a different guy.
Well that might not happen either.
We could be looking at a whole new cast with a new director.
...Why lord? Do you hate me god? Do you!?!
*sigh* I just hope they don't totally screw things up. The Lord of the Rings series is just to awesome to screw up!
...Man this is like LMX and alex's LoTR chat thread. Were's the LotR love from everyone else!?!

(Burn on modern films which suck)
Hey now, that's not entirely true, there are some damn good movies coming out this year...
Dang...I thought you were coming to spread the LotR love...o well.

Hey now, I like LotR too... definitely in my top 10 movies, and thats the entire trilogy, just such an epic undertaking, and it was done extremely well.
So true.
I love LoTR and have all the games for it.
Fellowship of the ring on the PC. That's right there was a FoTR. It was based on the book so Tom Bombadil was in it.
Two Towers
Return of the King
Third Age (Love this game!)
BFME 1 and 2
I beleive that is all.

True, but I was generalising modern films, its pretty lame. There are a few glimmers that appear occasionally.
I'll bring the love for Rings. My wife and I watched these movies on New Years Eve the last showing every year since Fellowship, when they were in the theater.
I'm with the movies all blowing. I haven't been to a movie all year. Last movie I saw in the theater was Xmen 3. 300 is next on my list, unless my sister comes in with her hair on fire about another movie. Ghost Rider intrigues me but meh.
On another note, I saw on IGN that Sam Raimi was being considered on Hobbit, if not PJ then Sam. For some reason there was a falling out between New Line and the man that made them billions of dollars(lawsuit). Go figure.
It was because PJ wanted to audit the script or something. Something about being cheated out of money that he and his team deserved.
Then Bob Shaye came out and flamed PJ, while PJ took the higher ground.
New Line is dirtying their image.
Sweet I never noticed this thread. Just gotta give some love to LOTR, yeah I was a bit of a Tolkien fanatic during my younger school days. I read the books when I was about 13, and then chose to write about Tolkien in most of my english papers in high school. I've always been very interested in the world Tolkien created. He went into so much detail about the history and life of Arda. Especially the elven language. I actually wrote the first 2 pages of one of my papers in elvish. haha geek. anyway PJ's movies are pretty much the only time I have been satisfied with a book to movie transition and I am glad it came on something I love. Even though there are changes they did not hurt the story and I can understand why he put them there. I still bring out the movies every now and then to watch them.
They are some of my favorite movies of all time. I'm glad they were done justice by a fanatic like Peter Jackson. Watching the bonus features made me more appreciative of the hard work that they did. I think The Trilogy has helped pave the way for other fantasy series that are going to be adapted for the big and small screens.
Discussion in the recent new LOTR game thread has caused me to revive this thread... we were spamming the other one too much.
Return with LOTR love.
Talk about how its superior to Star Wars xD
