Back in 1992, Nintendo came out with the ledgend of zelda a link to the past for the SNES. But is it still good today?
Story
Long before the events of the game, storys were told about a golden land that held unknow powers. Once the evil Ganon gets into the Golden Land, he holds the Triforce and turns it into the Dark World. To lock Ganon there, the Seven Wise Men created a seal to the Dark World, which can only be broken by the Sages or their descendants. This story is told to the player as the game unfolds.
Right before the game starts, Agahnim, gets rid of the King of Hyrule and starts searching for the seven maidens who are descendants of the sages, in order to send them to the Dark World and break the seal.
In the beggining of the game a young boy (Link) gets a telepathic mesagge from a strange girl (Zelda). Zelda is telling link to come save her witch you do. All in all you are sent out to go save hyrule by geting the master soward. The only way to get the master soward is to get the 3 pendents. I don't want to give to much away, but this is a fast paced story with great twists and turns. Many people are confused were Zelda games fall into the story line chronologicly. I belive that it falls directlly behind Orcarina of time. I belive this because of the begining "Ledgend" and the fact that at the end of OoT Ganondorf swears to link that he will take revenge on his decendents
Gameplay
There are several diffrent things from Zelda 1 and 2. The first thing is that link can now walk sideways insted of just up, down, left and right. This gave the game a whole new flexibility. Another is that there are 2 diffrent parrallel realms in the game that link can go between. This would become a widely usded aspect of many Zelda games. The soward has only 1 attack and 1 charge attack. That is basicly all you can do but there still is alot of stratige in soward fights. There would also be many new items to apear and then reapear in latter games. Such items include the Hookshot, the Master Sword, and the Pegasus Boots.
Music
A Link to the Past arguably established the musical backbone of the Zelda series. Many staple motives of the Zelda scores come from A Link to the Past, including Zelda's Lullaby (Princess Zelda's Theme), the Hyrule Castle (Royal Family Theme), Kakariko Village Rain Scene, and Select Screen / Fairy Cave. These themes have been used very consistently in most subsequent Zelda games to underscore their indicated subjects.
These theams were Koji Kondo at his best, and is looked as to being one of the best video game commpositions ever.
