Thursday will be the day we will all get the chance the play the much hyped hip hop jam fest called Def Jam Icon. So far, there are 4 new character [we expect a whole lot more on the way, considering DFFNY had nearly 50+ playable Hip Hop Stars]. The XBL Demo will host only two of the four newly added characters, Big Boi from Outkast and T.I [if you seen ATL you know they kinda have a history on screen together.]
I wonder how the gameplay will be like. EA Chi-town emphized* lusious background and true hip hop spirit which focuses on the beats of the track and the damage dealt through the enviroment. A long way from the traditional wrestling game that was Def Jam Vendetta.
I loved the last two Def Jam games, and the previous N64 wrestling games using the AKI wrestling engine like Wrestlemania 2000. This one plays similarly like Fight Night in some places like the special moves you can pull off with the right stick, which isn't surprising since the same guy is behind both and it has definitely turned from a wrestler into more of just a fighter which is disappointing at first. However, once I took time to really learn the controls in the demo I started to enjoy the more I played it. And you have to play it a lot to get a feel for the game because the matches are so short.
I haven't even messed with the whole scratching aspect of the demo because I was still just trying to keep my head above water with everything else going on, but I liked the demo without messing with it, so hopefully it will just add more fun and make the environments even more interactive. One thing I didn't like was when I'd throw a dude into that car wash and he'd get whacked by the car scrubber, he'd get knocked back into me which would hurt my fighter and sometimes knock me down!
Overall, I enjoyed the demo especially once I got comfortable with the controls. The gameplay could be a little faster, but not much more since it would make blocking pretty tough since you have a low and a high block. Not to mention a reverse for grapples. I have to give props to EA for trying something new with this series like they did with their hockey game, and although I wouldn't mind seeing AKI pop up with another publisher and put out a new game, Def Jam Icon looks like it will be a buy for me.
thats exactly what they want us to do in the demo, learn the new control scheme that theyve brought up. When I first play the game, honestly I felt the game was a lil step back from the prior Def Jam games which where extremely fun and over the top. My first impression was simple: "This is it?"
But I was determined to not let my hype for the game die down, so sitting with a friend learning the control took about 3 good games of experiementing and lookng at the basic button set up in the menu [ people just dont do that anymore ] Then thats when the fun began... we knew how to play and the action almost reached Def Jam 2 status where it was fast and furious... which count grapples and scrating with the dj and switching the songs up. I honestly can say that I cant wait for the game.
But its missing that over the top feel that the previous Def Jams had.... yeah its nice that that the brilliant minds behind FNRND3 made a unique fighting systems... sometimes you shouldnt fix what isnt broken. I want over the top special freaking moves! Usually the stroyline is pretty deep [if you played the first two then you know what Im talking about...] most likely Icon will have a deep story as well with a created character.
We just have to wait and see.
i found the demo boring, but i did like the scratching and how it was linked interactively with the backgrounds. that was actually my favorite part from the whole demo. im not really into rap or hiphop, but i did like how it was integrated into the gameplay. very unique.
I want to play this game, I never played the others, but it has THE Game! I want to play so bad, just wait until my friend gets it to mooch off him.
I thought the demo was extremely boring. Granted...the game is unique with it's integration with the activities happening in the background, but game-play wise, I was quickly put off by it.
The character you use for the demo had three different punches, but only one kick (atleast thats all I could figure out how to do). IMO, def. not worth buying.
it took alot of time and effort to get into it. plus i noticed that the demos we recieve through XBL are really rally old.... that demo was E3 06... a year ago... much has changed since then.
and i say that for all the demos.
im confused wat game r u guys talking about vendetta or which one ?
Def Jam Icon.. the third in the series.
