Sony America spokesperson Dave Karakker has commented on he Wii's performance in comparison to the Playstation 3 in a recent interview with the New York Times.
According to Next-Gen.biz, Karakker noted that the Playstation 3 shouldn't be compared to Nintendo's Wii, as "Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else."
Sounds like an excuse why the PS3 isn't selling as well as the Wii. I for one did in fact think between buying an Xbox 360, Wii or PS3 before deciding on the Wii and I'm pretty sure many people also did the same thing. Their are plenty of people who wanted a PS3 but switched to Wii.

I think that anyone who makes a $599 impulsive buy deserves to be shot.
i bought my wii as an impulse buy. zelda came available during launch, it's a great title and i love the zelda series, so i bought the system when available. now that i think about it, there is no other games that i rather play...perhaps the mario and the new smash bros. plus it was 250, compare to the other systems, 250 is like nothing. for example...someone from this forum was looking to sell his wii after beating zelda. i mean, if nintendo don't provide more games...it'll just be another gamecube, except wii made bigger launch.
ps3 wouldn't be an impulse buy cause it's expensive, so i'll have to think about it when i invest my 600 into it. sony didn't give gamers good games to make ps3 a impulse buy. none of the games they currently have on the commercials would attract me to go buy one. i'm saving my money until the new GTA and FF13 comes out. it's a slow start, but with big name games...ps3 will wake up from the slumber.
i'm not bashing the wii...i like my wii and will not sell it. but the current wii games excite me as much as the weather forcast in the north pole.
The current PS3 games are disgraceful.
But if your looking to the PS3's "future line-up" as being bright then we can EASILY say the same for the Wii's.
Impulse? I don't think I've ever bought anything over $100 dollars on an impulse. Maybe I just value my money more or something. Anything over $100 and I'm doing research, trying it out, etc... I bet anything that Sony wishes people would buy their PS3 on an impulse. Plain and simple, they offer but no one is taking. Life can be a bitter pill to swallow, especially if your Sony right now.
Wii = Impulsive
PS3 = Repulsive
I think sony is confused about the value of the dollar. First they price their console at $599 and say its worth it (ahem...no). Then they say a $250 console is an impulse buy. Maybe their they got their yen-dollar conversion messed up.
Tell that to all of us in the wii360 crowd. pffttt Sony (rolls eyes)
