For those of you without Mario Kart 64 from the Virtual Console I just thought I'd let you know that the game lacks the ability to save ghost data. Originally on the N64 ghost data would be stored to the controller pack which is placed in the ports on the N64 controller. The VC version simply tells you that no controller pack can be detected.
It's very disapointing and begs the question, couldn't Nintendo have tweaked the emulation just a
little bit so that ghost data could be saved to the Wii's hard drive? I know that Nintendo wants to bring the games to Virtual Console keeping them exactly as they were 6 to 20 years ago but this really hurts the game. Come on Nintendo, are you really trying to tell me that this was an "unavoidable technical (difficulty)"? It really seems more like laziness on my part. I really think Nintendo needs to look at all the games it plans to release for Virtual Console and find a few minor things it can fix here and there so that we can get the most out of our Virtual Console purchases.
of course they could have tweaked it, but with people paying rediculous prices for rom dumps, i dont expect it to change.
that is, if the wii had a hard drive to even store stuff on....
sorry, typo in story.
internal memory = hard drive
I know there's a difference but it's not much. Sort of like apples and somewhat appley oranges.
Yeah, just a little bit of data would be used up on the internal memory to save it. Not sure why it won't considering you can save data from VC games on the Wii instead of using the old GC memory cards or at least I thought you could.
yeah, oh and PM joker to put this on digg
I don't see the point. There's already been a couple similar articles on the web, and I wouldn't doubt that one's already been up on digg.
* Kindrik goes to check.
Yes, there have been a couple in fact.
yeah, sorry, I just assumed it was original because there was no source

Well it is original (as in not found at any other site) because I noticed it when I bought it, but since there have been many people who've bought it as well it spread pretty fast.
a hard drive stops working after I drop It on the floor.
flash cards do not.
there's a difference, namely a loss of files I will never get back. :P
