Has anyone eise noticed, if you have a GC memory card inserted It won't connect to the internet?
I have tried it several times with the same result, firmware fix?
Anyone know why this might be?
Hmmm, I haven't tried that but this is interesting, in a bad way of course. I'll have to check to see if I have the same problem. Anyone else have this problem?
It worked just fine for me when I had my old GCN memory pack plugged in. Was able to log on to the Wii Shop, and d/l two different VC games.
Are you sure this is a widespread bug, or just a coincedence happening to you?
Wii internet was very clitchy lastnight for me. I was watching a TV show on it, and it would just stop working, and you couldn't refresh or do anything. At one point I had to manually unplug the system because it had become unresponsive.
I'm sure they will have an update fix or something for this.
i have a GC memory card attached since I have the Wii. I have no problem on any channels or whatsoever.
I had 2 GC cards in the Wii but it connected perfectly fine.

That happens because the Wii browser doesn't know how to handle pop ups very well. Sometimes you'll get a pop up that comes to the front which means you'll need to go back and try again. Sometimes the pop ups go into the background and will then come forward, or try to later on. Tabbed browsing would really fix this problem so I hope Opera puts it in.
Thanks for your comments.
Ok Well Maybe its just me Wii then. The memory card is a max drive pro, I don't see how that would make any difference. I have tested it again and again, as long at there is a memory card in either slot, there is no internet connection. As soon as you remove it, it's back!
While we are talking about the wil browser and crashing thought, my wii has crashed several times using the browser, sometimes when pop ups happen but also sometimes when it encounters certian javascripts, gmail can be one of these. I have had to pull the power out at the back a couple of times.
Well I have my Wii connected to the internet and my gamecube memory cards are in the slots. Its probably just your wii...
Well if it is just my wii that bites!, I wonder if I can get a new one, is this covered by warranty? weird. I think I will contact nintendo.
Thanks for the feedback.
it could be that you have a dodgy memory card, try it with an official memory card
The memory card works fine, but maybe..... I don't have an offical one.
no, what I'm saying is try it with a different memory card, regardless of whether that one works, as it could be causing some problems.
I had that with a PS1 memory card, certain parts of games just stopped working :/
The Max Drive Pro is more than just a memory card. I think I remember hearing that you could run programs off of it. That's how people got burnt GC games to work by putting GCOS.exe onto it, inserting the Max Drive Pro disc, running GCOS, then inserting their burnt game.
If anybody else has the Max Drive Pro try it out and see if you get the same problem as Treeml. If you can't connect then we know that it's just a problem with that type of memory card.
i recently lost my GC memory card
but i had no problems when i had it plugged in and got on the internet channel, VC, wii shop, forecast channel, news channel, etc.
It sounds to me like it is the memory card, you can run programs off it on the GC and back up your saves via USB, but the Wii doesn't recognise the boot disk, something about extra copy protection I guess, however the Max drive pro card is still a massive memory card which I thought would be great for storing stuff on.
Its not a huge deal, I just have to remember to remove it every time I play gamecube games if I want to use the net on the wii.
problem: shitty internet channel.
i mean, COME ON! why do you think that:
they give it for free.
the final version is out in march.
you pay for the final version.
it's just beta software!
the only wii problems i ever have are if i am in the internet channel, or if the router is too far away.

it's not the internet channel, I can't acess weather or news channels either. Although I do agree with you the internet channel has a lot of work to be done on it. Nice of Nintendo to let us all test it for free though.
