this is something that has been driving me crazy for a while:

in the process of creating an animated show(or movie),[u]do voice actors time their phrases to go to the lips of the characters, or are characters in the animation timed with what the people say?(i.e. what is done first?).
I'm not sure really. I think its easier to animate first and have the VA's dub their voices as closely as possible. But it could work the other way as well.
I think it's done afterwards, because ive noticed in behind the scenes things they show the actors some rough footage while there voice acting just so they no the sort of situation but the lips normally aren't moving till after the voice acting was recorded. Probably easier like that anyways.
it depends on what kind of animation you're talking about...2d animation, like anime, is usually all drawn out beforehand and the voice actors match their voice to the speed of the characters. this is how it happens in dubbing, too, which is even harder. but with most 3d animation (things that are created in Maya, etc.) the animators are given the voices and do a sort of lip synching for the characters mouths.
aaaaaaaaah! yes!

Yeah, this seems to be right. They've also done it the other way with 2-d animation, but it's not that easy to do.

Ive work with Flash MX 2004 animation B4, Its DEFINITLY(in flash) easyer to do real speech THEN time the animation to it.

Whut animation are u working with?
