Since the first supposed Wii modchip came out, other mod chips have been coming out of the woodwork. Here's the latest enty in the Wii modchip market. No one is sure who the devs are but it has been said that perhaps they're the same ones who were responsible for the XenoGC modchip for the GameCube. This modchip for the wii is currently being called WiiKey. It is said to be upgradable thus making it future proof for any fixes Nintendo might throw its way. Be on the look out for more details and pictures. In the meantime you can read the full story below.

It looks like it's modchips galore for Wii users ever since the first proof that it can be done came out. After that, it felt like all the devs were having an impromptu competition to see who'll come up with the best one. Team Ninja has their Wiinja mod chip, but online site MaxConsole believes that TeamCyclops' Cyclowiz is by far better.

Anyway, we found another one today, and it seems that this particular modchip might eclipse that of TeamCyclops. It's called Wiikey and according to its devs, it is the first and only upgradable modchip to date. We looked around to know who's responsible for this creation, but its devs are rather elusive. If we are not mistaken, however, it was created by the same group who came up with GameCube's XenoGC.

The devs also mentioned that they will upload their site with pictures and more features within the next few days. Expected shipping date, if things push through, is February 7.

Specifications:

Fully upgradable via DVD/disc (future proof, expect cool features to come)
Direct boot of Wii backups (like originals)
Direct boot of GC backups (like originals)
Boots different region GC games/backups
Boots different NTSC region Wii games/backups
Supports multi-disc games
Supports DVD-R and DVD+R
Built-in audio fix (for games using streaming, no patch required)
Stealth mode
4 wires & quick solder interface
Compact design, best quality components, rock solid high speed controller
Professional ESD packing

Hey, D4rk, if that Red Steel joker sent didn't work, it might with this...
This actually looks very promising. I guess we'll have to wait for more details and it's supposed to be released very soon if nothing sets it back.

lol. z6 sent out a defective Red Steel disc?

What is homebrew?

Homebrew is applications/games made by the people for the people! but ya just stuff that people dev. the DS hb scene has alot of neat stuff like comicbrowser, irc apps, pda apps, moonshell (mp3,movie, pic viewer).

HB will be 90% of the reason i will get a modchip for my wii. because you really dont realize how much usefull stuff people can make till you can try it.

Damn these confusing mod chips <_<.

I'm afraid if I don't get a pro to install one of these babies, then i'll probobly implode my Wii!

I don't think I sent D4rk a copy of Red Steel. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think that went to Dr Obvious. Either way, I think he's talking about the region coding on the disc.

That makes sense.
...red steel?

On Topic: Tomorrow is the 7th, at least here it is and I'll wait to see if there has been any update. Nothing so far.
of course, without wii homebrew and just gc homebrew, we aren't any closer to having linux on the wii.
ex: wii homebrew will take advantage of all of that extra hw, but gc homebrew can only use what the gc originally had.
and as for z6, forget about RED steel! what about:
Well it's now the 8th and all is quiet....... Still waiting for an update....
There's no specific post for the cyclone Wii mod and this article also mentions Wiikey so I thought I'd just add it here. It appears that the Cyclone mod has begun shipping and has some very nice new functions. See the full article below courtesy of QJ.Net (Source)

Remember the Wiikey guys? They're the modders who came up with the first and only upgradable modchip for the Wii. This same modchip will begin shipping today, or so they promised. Well, they can keep the title "first ever" but they can't claim that their babies are the only one of its kind on the market anymore.

TeamCyclops just announced through its own website that CycloWiz has been upgraded as well to have a DVD upgradability feature. And to rub it in more, the team mentioned that its modchip is shipping already. As in now. At first glance, one may think that CycloWiz is superior to Wiikey, but one has to take into consideration that the latter is the only chip with support for Wii imports.

We're guessing TeamCyclops has something more up its sleeves, especially now that there are reports circulating about the new Wii models being incompatible with these modchips. Now, we wonder whatever happened to the Wiinja kids...

I can't wait to play Tamagotchi no Pika Pika Daito-ryo-! on the wii. that has got to be the greatest mario party look-alike ever made.

Kororinpa looks fun, too.

apparently the tamagotchi: party on! game is coming to america. would importing the japanese game still be worth it?
It all depends on how long it will take them to translate the game and if you can wait that long.

As for the topic it seems that all has gone quiet, which is kind of disappointing since this mod showed so much promise. Who knows, they still may be working on it but in the meantime you can check out the Cyclowiz mod that has been updated and is starting to look better and better. If I'm not mistaken I think it is being shipped now.
