For us as gamers, its too early to tell. Both systems are still pretty young. We won't know the maximum potential until the end of their lifespans.
I practically drooled when I saw the previews for the new FF games on the PS3. ((By the way, sorry to bump in on you guys' convo. =D))

I also drooled at the new FF stuff. And as good as FF-XIII will be I honestly can't wait for Square to move onto FF-XIV... that game is going to look even more amazing.
not only were there more ps2 units sold than the 360, but there were more ps2's sold than the ps3. it seems like the market just isnt ready to make the switch. then again the price point for both of those systems are very different. what i question is: when will those new ps2 owners buy a ps3? games are still coming out for the ps2 and with $600+ you can buy a ps2 and a ton of AAA games for it. i dont see how this helps sony if their 10 year old system is being favored over a "future proof" system.
This may sound a bit crazy, but I think Sony should stop supporting the PS2 with new games. Obviously people who love the PS2 are not gonna switch to the PS3 if they don't have to. Many would say this would be suicide, but it's at least apparent to me that the current PS3 roadmap is killing the company anyhow.
The Wii and Xbox 360 aren't being hurt because some game are still coming out for their old systems, but the PS3 is hurting bad. Let the Sony fans talk with their wallets. Any games coming out for a Sony system would have to bought for the PS3, let's see how loyal their followers really are.

why the hell would Sony allow God of War 2 to come out on the PS2? why not delay it and make it a must buy on the PS3?

I always asked myself this.
Both FF-XII and God of War 2 should have been moved to PS3.
That would have moved some consoles/angered some fans.
There are many logical reasons why those games are on PS2:
- 120 million PS2s, 1 million PS3s (sales will be a little better methinks)
- takes time to move those games to a next-gen console (FFXII was already way overdue)
- FFXIII and God of War 3 are already well on the way and by the time they come out there will be a much larger base of PS3 owners and developers will be much more experienced with the console

If FFXII went out for the PS3, all the fans were waiting so long for it, since they announced it many years ago, imagine if they just say there bringing it out for a system no one can afford.
And? Nintendo did it with Zelda. It was annoying but I coped.
Anyway since FF-XIII isn't due til 2008 I don't think I need to rush to get a PS3.

Pffffffff, I'm gonna get a 360 WAY sooner then I'd get a PS3...o wait that's right, I'd never get a PS3.
I want a 360, but only for online which is 499...
I was going to, but seems 2008 will be its year.
So I'll focus on Wii for the first half of this year.
Worry about XB360 in the second half when I'll be able to buy Halo 3.
And worry about PS3 next year for FF-XIII + MGS4.
And when will you be getting a job?
This year ironically. Plus I have things I want to sell anyway.

I've got my job but my parents won't let me spend my money freely. Trust me, if I could, I would have about 5 other Wii games and a 360 with a few games all by spring.
