Bethesda: Wii not capable of running Oblivion
According to Bethesda, its epic production, Oblivion, isn't able to run on Nintendo's Wii.
February 09, 2007 - Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion wound up as one of biggest games of 2006, not only due to widespread critical acclaim and popularity, but in terms of its shear size too.
The game made its debut on Xbox 360 and PC earlier last year, and is now headed to Sony's PlayStation 3 during 2007. However, despite its success, Nintendo's Wii won't play home to the RPG title, according to Bethesda's Pete Hines. The reason? It's not capable.

In an interview with Shacknews, Hines said,
"This time around we did Oblivion and again we designed a game that's really going to push some limits and would do the things we thought next-gen consoles might be able to do. When 360 dev kits were available, we did it on them because it was available.
"It's not really going to run on a Wii for example, but if it could we would put it there. Our philosophy is to make a game and make it available to as many people as possible. We're not looking to limit who can play a game. We want to make something that's fun and we want as many people as possible to play it."
All hope of a spin-off hitting Wii is not lost though, with
The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion set to land on Sony's PSP. The entire interview with Hines can be found

First off: Thanks for pointing out the obvious Bethesda.
Secondly: I would love a spin off of Oblivion for the Wii. But it would have be nearly as immersive as Oblivion with only less in the graphics department.
<3 Elder Scrolls.
Seems like a natural fit with the first-person perspective and all. Obviously the graphics have to be dumbed down quite a bit but I think it could make it through alright. Oblivion is probably my favorite 360 title to date.
I could care less about Oblivion. I never saw the point in games that don't really have endings.
Of course, it's a 'duh'. Oblivion is well known for it's really good graphics (I'm not saying it's the only thing.

), too bad Wii can't handle graphics like that. Though the gameplay would be interesting...meh, I'd like Zelda better.

Well, Oblivion is really for the more high teched-up consoles and computers, so, yea XD.
Ok, let me have it if you'd like but I have never played any of them! I do play so many MMORPGs but this one just never crossed my path for some reason. I was never drawn to it like I have been to so many others. I'm currently playing an MMORPG but for some reason Oblivion just never peaked my interest.
Its not an MMO, lol it's strictly single player...and INCREDIBLY fun.
Plus obviously the Wii couldn't handle Oblivion, maybe if the graphics were tuned down a lot and maybe a few other things but they sorta just posted the obvious there.
my friend who bought the game and hated it at first. he recreated his character three times....but after getting the game going, there are so many things you can do in that game, side quests...etc. everytime i go over there, he is playing oblivion...he was hooked on it. i don't even have a chance to play some two player games...just stare at him with him cursing at the orcs that's kicking his ass.
Yeah the first 5 hours are pretty slow but the next 100 hours hours or so are riveting.
Its true, its kinda like Final Fantasy (usually a lame start but picks up afterwards) except its MUCH more open.
So much to do in these games... I definitely wouldn't mind a spin off Oblivion game or maybe a stand alone game for the Wii.
/dream.
meh, my friend has oblivion, but i dont like it that much at all...
takes up too much of your time

I once used something Oldblivion on a an old PC of mine (the only available for me at the time). Basically it tunes down the graphics so that it runs on older machines - hence the name. I'm hoping they use a similar process for the Wii version instead of trashing the game.
The game is amazing (I'm a sucker for RPGs) but there's one thing I've never really liked about it: the melee combats... they just didn't feel right (I know what "cursing the orc" means, believe me). Now, put the combat under the Wii-mote system and this would be a near perfection game... IMO, of course

WHOA! BETHESDA JUST INFORMED ME THAT I HAVE TO BREATHE TO SURVIVE! WOW, THANKS BETHESDA! I NEVER KNEW THAT!
Of course Wii can't handle Oblivion. I don't even want it to. =/

I don't know what the hell your talking about. Oblivion won't tune itself down so that it can play on older pc's, frankly it needs a new computer to play, the game has demanding specs. You may have played Morrowind because Oblivion ABSOLUTELY does not do that, trust me I have it for my comp. had to buy a new graphics card and I still need more ram to run it properly.
It's a shame that the Wii doesn't have the processing power to run Oblivion, because it would probably lend itself more to the game then a regular controller (a la the 360).
Just thinking about how great it would be to trash a room with the wiimote makes me feel all giddy.
Thats pretty retarted. You guys know that this game is going onto the psp right? If it can go on to the psp, why not the Wii? Oh well im not intersted.
The game on PSP is a spin off, not a direct port.

these guys made a program that allows oblivion to run better with older graphics cards, the graphics quality obviously isn't as good but it does work.
Thanks morph_ball... That's exactly what I was referring to.
