(If you don't want to read all this, the main reason for the post is under this block)

I know most of you have heard of the games Tom Clancy endorses but how many of you have ever read his books? I read the Hunt for Red October a couple years ago I think and was fan ever since. I usually try to pick one of his books that the school has on it's AR (Accelerated Reader) book tests list otherwise I'd need to do an "interview" about the book with my teacher. The computer tests are easier.
After The Hunt for Red October I read Patriot Games. As far as I can remember it has a CIA analyst Jack Ryan who saves the royal family from a terrorist attack. He's then targeted by an Irish terror group (forgot the name) and then works to put the group away with the CIA. It fell in the middle of the Jack Ryan series so I missed a few before it and plan on reading the others later on because our school doesn't have the entire series. I think, and am almost positive that there was another. What else did I read last year? (Patriot Games, The Green Mile, The Dead Zone, The Hunt for Red October, The Andromeda Strain, Airframe). Nevermind, I guess that that's it as far as Clancy goes (I also got into a couple Stephen King books but I tried From a Buick.. something but it bored me.)
Anyways, I just finished Tom Clancy's Op Center: State of Siege which was great, but like Patriot Games it fell in the middle of a series (Op Center). The book had the AR sticker on it but it's not in the database so I'm going to need to do an interview.

I was just wondering if anyone else read some good Clancy novels, or just any good book in general. I find that whenever I walk into my school's library I never have a clue of what I want to take. It would be great if you could give me the author since everything is sorted by their name. Depending on how well my State of Siege interview goes I might just ignore the AR tests and maybe go to the public library to find a book that the school doesn't have.
The and McNab Novels are quite a good read
I see the andy McNab books as looking for a teen target area where as tom clancy is aiming for the older readers.

I really want to try and get my hands on some of his books, they look very intresting reads.
i used to be a fan of tom clancy (and still consider his jack ryan series to have been fairly good), but i could only take so much. after i read about 10 of his books, they all seemed the same and very predictable. and i must say the more recent ones i've read (like the op center series) were not even written that well (stylistically that is).

but anywho, here are some books i'd recommend (not sure if they are ar, but you might find them worth a read anyway):
a separate peace (john knowles)
breakfast of champions (vonnegut)
dharma bums (kerouac)
johnathon strange and mr norrell (susanna clark)
letters to the earth (mark twain)
My favorite Tom Clancy book would have to be Rainbow Six, you know the one the game is based off of. In all honesty it is a very good book and i would highly suggest it if you like any of his other books. It is a bit longer than most of his but worth it. Plot seems well thought out and has a few twists and turns. One of the best i've read.

Another good one is Deception Point by Dan Brown. The writing is just as good on that book as his others but is also different in the sense that it is almost more like a Tom Clancy book.

But those would probably be my two favorite Big Grin
I am still attempting to get my hands on one and might have a walk into a local library later.

The fact is that they probably wont let me get it out as I am considered a child.

My card is under 16. So I doubt they will let me.

I am interested in the rainbow six but I am also interested in the splinter cell books, he did not write them but he has been involved with the series.
