I couldn't think of a good place for this, so I put it here because the next Sonic game will be coming out for the Nintendo Wii.
Hit Reset: How Sega can save Sonic the Hedgehog by Jeremy Parish
What do you guys think of the points he raised? Here's my favourite part of the article:
Nowadays, Sonic is only for hardcore fans living in denial and casual gamers who haven't heard that his new games totally suck.
Well, I can't judge the game until I play it but there is a lot of hype around this game and it may be the savior or nail in the coffin to the series depending on how it turns out. So far so good I guess with the current scores it has been receiving.
He's not just talking about the next game. He's talking bout Sonic in general. And I agree with what he has said.
Megaman and Sonic are past revival. I'm sorry but it's true. To bring back those series your going to have to do more than "revert to the old days". You're going to have to do something revolutionary. I'd say that's a good guideline to follow AFTER the series has been revived.
Sonic on PS3 is suppose to suck big time. No it's not the same gay as the Wii version, but I hope Sega put a lot of time into "the secret rings" cause I really want to want this game

just based on gameplay videos and what ive read, i pre-ordered sonic and the secret rings. i havent played a sonic game since sonic 2 for te genesis, but this one looks like its gonna be a winner

i think the guy was accurate in what he said about sonic...
but i think that the old mega man x series will stand the test of time, as it is now. i love it!
It's a nice little article, but the points it makes seem rather obvious to me.
Oh Sega, please make a good Sonic game. I like to run really fast.
"And please, for the love of God, don't ever make us see cute human girls making out with Sonic. Ever again."
Oh man, and I thought Peach marrying Bowser was bad!
But you see, we're used to Bowser wanting an in with Peach.
WTF was with Sonic randomly getting a chick? That is messed up and lame. Shame on you Sega.
The points may be obvious... but why the Hell can't Sega see them? Do they want to kill their franchise character?

That's a great article. Hilarious. And as a fan of the old school Sonic games (everything up to Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast), I whole-heartedly agree with the points made.
*Rolls up sleeves*
Are you serious? All the points he made were stuff the Sonic Team did in earlier games.
1) Lose the tagalongs.
Hmm... Did the original Sonic the Hedgehog have tagalongs? No? Okay.
2) Double for Shadow?
Do I need to explain here? Didn't think so.
3) Faster Sonic. Kill. Kill.
In this explanation he even states how it was done before. Lame.
4) Slow it down.
Again, already done by the Sonic Team years ago? Yes? Okay.
5) Closing. Lose the people, cutscenes, makeout sessions, dialogue, and other crap.
Oh snap! For solutions to all these problems, I can just go play Sonic the Hedgehog on my Genesis! This is amazing! Like I said, reverting to the past won't save an entire drawn-out, human-kissing, gunslinging, random fishing series. They need to add something new to make it appealing. Remember Tomb Raider? Her games sucked, she sucked, the team sucked, life sucked when you played her games but with Legends they took it to the next level and made it a fun game.
XII also changed the series dramatically with it's new combat system. Now they're using new combat systems everywhere! Crisis Core, FFXIII, Versus XIII, and I'm pretty sure if they are to make a FFVII remake they aren't using the ATB system. If they do they better make it prettier than anything I've ever seen, I can't even imagine going back to the whole "wait there while I pick a command" type battles.

Don't bring FF into this. ATB is for the win.
The way Sonic is going he is doomed. If Secret Rings flops then Sonic Team will need to use some magic to revive him.
Sonic Team need to make Sonic new again, while not screwing him up. Sure its risky, but if they are sooooo much better than Nintendo as their fans claim they are then then they should be able to do it. Especially since Nintendo bought Mario into 3D and was a complete success.
If Secret Rings flops they need to sit and think for awhile and spend a bit longer working on the next Sonic game.
On another note: Down with the sh*t tag-a-longs. I only like Sonic, and I could understand Tails tagging along (he's like the Luigi of the series) but the others, forget them.
Now that I've seen the light, ATB fails. It doesn't suck, but it's not as good as other RPG's that are floatin' around here nowadays.
Sonic needs more than that to be revived though and FFXII reinvigorated the series.
Must... avoid... discussing... FF... Lol.
Sonic needs a miracle, I must say.

I think you totally missed the point of the article. The point was that Sonic should go BACK to those days of greatness. Not that Sonic should DO those things. Of course Sonic has already been done in the ways he/she describes in the article. That's the point they were trying to make.
In order to go back to those days of greatness, they'd have to do those things. What are you talking about?
Heh. Basically, the sum of the article was that if Sega wants to make Sonic good again, they should make it more like the original games. Make sense?
