I just went to my local games store and was notified of the ability to preorder mario galaxy and metroid 3 as it will be released in sometime around June - they said it was definate information. Naturally i put 30 bucks on each! Because this is in Australia it should mean that the Americas will have it around the same time if not before!

I don't wanna be doubtful but I would say not to believe them. Game stores spout out random release dates to guarantee a pre-order all the time. It may be true though, so I'm gonna do some research for you and tell you the results.
The main reason I doubt it is because its an Australian store at that. It'd be pretty random for them to know, and no one else.
And for them to get it at the same time as us. <_<

I doubt that the 2 titles will be released at the same time. I think the titles will be released at least 3 or 4 months apart. I can see Metroid coming out sometime during the summer July,August time frame & Super Mario Galaxy coming out for the Holiday season. No better title to have for the Holiday season than a Mario title.

Corruption as being 6-01-07
Super Mario Galaxy 11-01-07
and we know those aren't set in stone, but I'm guessing they're not that far off.

Not a chance. Both will be released October or later (Don't be surprised if its December or *gasp*...2008). I hate it when people get their hopes up because some guy gave a release date or some random website made up some random release date. Only trust the words when they come straight from Nintendo or an announcement from a very high-profile website i.e. IGN, GameSpot, etc (and even those can be sketchy at times).

Why does everyone say Nintendo pushes releases back like they're the only ones that do so?

Aside from online play it SUCKED. At least when Nintendo pushes something back its for good reason and the games wind up being worth the wait.

They need Super Mario Galaxy to compete with the monster that is Halo 3! Metroid Prime 3 would help as well.
