Full Version: Oblivion stuttering

I installed oblivion a couple of days ago (playing for 2nd time, after playing on the 360 version) and have spent 5hrs so far.

In the game In both outdoor and indoor I get extremely good frame rates never going below around 32 fps and thats on the worst of times, and normally stays around 40-50 outside, and more in dongeons. I set the game at medium settings with 1280*720 res, bloom, and a ton of medium-*high settings. The problem is that settings and fps dont matter, since when I set the game to all low settings the stuttering still persisted @ like 100fps. Stuttering accurs anytime during the game, but specially while fighting.
System specs @ bottom.

And no it's not my system, because COD2, HL2, HL2 ep1, company of heroes, and other games I have played flawlessly at high settings without stuttering.

I have tryed all I can to fix it, including the dual core optimizer, the hotfix, I'v tweaked the oblivion.ini file, i'v tryed running the game using only one core, defraged my comp, deleted directory. I am just stuck.

**A ton of rep for the person who solves my problem!**

it may sound really crazy, but many people who have talked about having problems with this game on PC, say that if you turn down the "grass" effect, it's really help the performance. plus, and I'm sure you've already done this, but make sure you have all the game patches installed also, because I checked and then do tweak a lot. One other thing. AA (anti-alasing) in a game can really slow things down even with a good graphics card...you might want to turn this feature off.

Actually, Iv tried it, as i said, I turned every single setting off/lowest possible, just to see if stuttering persisted, and it did. I have patch 1.1.511 which i believe is the latest.

sometimes your graphics card will have specific patches for a game, have you checked that out?
Never heard of that, where could I find that?

TRY THIS

Thanks a whole bunch green, seriously, but i'v already tried everything on that guide.
And now I think I can see where oblivion stutters the most (even on Ultra extreme LOW settings), in combat, it stutters a lot eventhough it says it's at around 40fps or so.

well I'm really sorry to hear that. Like I said though, you might go on the Nvidia website and see if there's any special patches for the game. I have an ATI card and sometimes those type of specific patches are around to help performance.
I'm not sure if a $500+ graphics card is the answer. I think he's got the power, but there's something not quite working on some other front.
SPAM PICTURES, ban these noobs!
WOOOOOOT!!!! FIXED IT!!
Here is what happened, I turned off hardware acceleration+sample rate of my sound card, and oblivion ran flawlessly, but of course I wouldn't want to play the game with crappy sounds, so then I found the "quiet feet" mod, that made it so that all feet sounds are erased (and turned my acceleration+sample rate back up), and now the game works frames per second perfect!
jesus I spent SO MANY hours trying to figure this out

Again thanks to green for your efforts
I'm very glad you are able to play it like it "should" be played.
*fixed*
