It seems that one of the executives for Nintendo has "spilled the beans" so to speak about the Nintendo Wii actually having HD capabilities after we were told that it didn't. Now before you get excited let me point out the bad news, even though it may have HD capabilities it is said that it runs like crap using them. The exec for Nintendo says that using HD that it will only run at 30fps. This is still an interesting story IF ITS TRUE? Remember, this is not said to be a fact and might turn out to be bogus but interesting nonetheless. Also, don't forget that this guy was drunk as well. Check out the full story below.

--------------------------------------------------

The Inquirer's Charlie Demerjian was surprised at how much a Nintendo executive would spill after a couple of alcoholic drinks. He was especially surprised to note how knowledgeable the exec became in CPUs and GPUs in his drunken state! But nothing was more surprising than hearing what the exec had to say.

Wii has hidden HD technology in its GPU. Problem is, it isn't really that great. It probably won't brush near 30 FPS at HD resolutions. Besides, isn't that the same technology that pushes the other next generation consoles above the US$ 400 barrier? The discovery doesn't look so great after knowing the rest of the information - and getting hit with reality.

After "Asian hero" Shigeru Miyamoto explained why the Wii doesn't include HD capability, the claim that the Wii had HD all along caught our attention. Was the Wii slated to come with HD, but was changed during the design process? We probably will never know. The news isn't confirmed at the moment. But Miyamoto did say the next console will include HD capability, so that's a promise we hope kept.

being a long time ATI user, this doesn't surprise me at all. just remember that a firmware update can do wonders to these video game systems.
Hmmm well this is interesting and hey who knows. I mean a firmware update could probably do the trick.
Why is it always someone who's drunk or being bribed? Why isn't this person named? Why can't it be someone reputable instead just a random drunk guy?
Don't think I believe this article unless there's an official word from Nintendo.
Yeah, I agree about the shady source but it does seem very possible.
Shady source brings a higher level of doubtablility to it. But I mean it's probably possible.
i have to disagree...Sony is very big about sending out a President of something and giving us a bunch of Bullsh!t. So maybe it's best if it's an unknown source, someone who could loose their job if their named.
Damn, I told Miyamoto and Reggie to stop drinking together.
Well, even if Nintendo does bring out the HD within the Wii, it'll probobly go no farther than 720p.

"But Miyamoto did say the next console will include HD capability, so that's a promise we hope kept." <- Yayness, hope he keeps his promise!

And what are FPS's?
Frames per second, and is there any way that one could test this out, proving or disproving it?
Yea, lets get some Wii MODers in here, come on! XD.

So how many FPS do the PS3 and X360 have on 1080p?
What I read is that Nintendo Underestimated the Wii to the general public -so that when the firmware is avaliable they can dazzel us.
Don't get me wrong it will still be below the HD potential of 360 and PS3.
I heard somewhere that nintendo had HD out their, but it would be able to work with a future update you could download! well I guess only time will tell!
