According to a report by Bloomberg.com the Nintendo Wii outsold the Playstation 3 and the XBox360 in January. The Nintendo Wii sold approximately 436,000 consoles compared to the XBox360's 294,000 and the PS3's 244,000. The report went on to say that the Nintendo Wii is currently outselling the PS3 by an almost 2-to-1 ratio. Another interesting note was that of the three systems the Nintendo Wii's sales have fallen the least. I find this interesting because right now there are many publications out there saying that the Wii's "novelty" is wearing off. If it is then what is the reason for the XBox360's or PS3's decline? I think this article just reiterates how popular and successful the Wii is and I think that the people have spoken with their wallets, checkbooks, ATM/Credit Cards, and hard-earned cash. Nintendo Wii Tops PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 in January (Update1)
By Michael White
Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Nintendo Co.'s Wii outsold Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 during January as consumers bought 436,000 of the video-game consoles.
Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 was the second-most purchased machine with sales of 294,000, followed by PlayStation 3 with 244,000, Credit Suisse analyst Heath Terry said today in a report, citing NPD Group Inc. data.
Wii is outselling PlayStation 3 by almost 2-to-1, the report said. Consumers have been attracted to Wii's price, at half the cost of the least-expensive PlayStation 3, and a wireless controller that can be swung like a bat or tennis racquet during play.
Both Wii and PlayStation 3 were introduced in November as competitors to the Xbox 360, which was released in 2005. Wii's $250 price tag compares to $499 and $599 for the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 sells for $299 and $399.
Wii sales fell from 604,000 units in December, the smallest drop of the three consoles, Terry wrote. The Xbox 360 had the biggest decline, dropping from 1.13 million units while PlayStation 3 sales declined from 491,000.
PlayStation 3 includes a Blu-ray DVD player that allows users to watch movies in a high-definition format, in addition to playing games. Production snags with the player created supply problems during the holiday shopping season, forcing Sony to concede market share to Wii.

Yes! Haha! Awesome!
Those guys who think the Wii's so called 'novelty' will were off soon can shove a Wiimote up there asses.

Wii is definitely like a stone rolling down a hill gathering speed.
But this console war has only begun.
I would agree with lemon on this, but for all of those waiting for the blockbuster PS3 games and Halo 3 on the 360, it's something to remember that the Wii will have some blockbusters coming out this year also and I think Nintendo will be in a very comfortable and profitable spot.
Like I said, only the beginning. This time of the year is like the system's warm up except the PS3 is the one down at the bar getting drunk when it should be doing more work. Whilst the Wii and XB360 are taking advantage on the absence of the third console.
Lemon,
You are so wise! Your are my Wii-Yoda
WC
I'm still waiting for the PS3 Euro launch. I think we'll have a clearer picture then though it's pretty clear now.
Speak like Yoda, I do not... until then.
Well, rumours say Europe is Sony-land so if Nintendo and Microsoft beat them there (which looks likely judging by sales here) then Sony will be getting nervous. Much like they should be with the PSP.
it could be price related too, the buzz on the new nintendo is pretty favorable plus it costs half as much so it really should be outselling the others...in fact the gap should be wider, IMO
Well Nintendo would need to give them more stock. But instead they'll keep the buzz up if people are still having trouble picking one up.
YAY Nintendo

They have to speed up production if they want 1 million Wiis out per month.
Everyone keeps talking about the Wii slowing down. It is and it's only natural. The rate at which is slowing down is still less than the PS3 and XBox360.
I wouldn't doubt it, getting about half of what Microsoft has now in only 4 months, that deserves a record of some sort, we might just out sell the X360 by the end of the year.
Not so sure about that.
360 will move thousands of consoles with Halo 3.
I honestly doubt that lemon. I think those people who really want Halo 3 are probably those same individuals who have already bought a 360. Will there be added sales because of it? Sure there will be, but it's not gonna be an earth shattering number. I mean many people can look at the successful of Gears of War and say that has been the main selling point for the 360.
its also possible there will be no loser in the console wars, Wiis doing great, 360 contiues to do well, Sony catches up ...and all three are successful til next gen and we can start this all over
I know an XB360 will be moving into my house when Halo 3 comes out.
But seriously, there might be alot of fans hanging out for Halo. Its going to move a lot of consoles and is an insanely popular game (though the Halo series is overrated)
