UPDATE: Eurogamer got in contact with a Nintendo UK spokesperson. According to them the GameCube is still being produced and shipped and that software support is still there. "I can confirm that globally, Nintendo is still continuing production of GameCube hardware and GameCube software" the spokesperson said. So who do we believe? Nintendo of America's VP of Marketing & Corporate Affairs or a nameless Nintendo UK spokesperson?

Well, it's official. The Gamecube is now dead. In an interview with GameDaily Nintendo of America's Perrin Kaplan had this to say. "Are we producing any more GameCubes? No, but do we have the inventory there for people to still purchase? Yes. GameCube is a great starter system – price, ease, games. Every one of the consoles has had its cycle and every single one of them has become a great starter system at the last leg of its cycle, and that's where GameCube's at."

Kaplan also said that Nintendo will be cutting first party software support for the console. We should have all seen this coming after Nintendo quietly moved Super Paper Mario away from the Gamecube, over to Wii. "We're not selling GameCube to the people who are hardcore players and want all the gadgetry," Kaplan said. "We're going after the people who never really bought a system before now it’s finally at a price that they can afford for their family."

If Nintendo is no longer targeting the hardcore with the Gamecube then I guess they're putting it all onto Wii, eventhough we've heard on multiple occasions that Wii wasn't built around this demographic.

A Tribute to the GameCube

Since it feels to be appropriate I've posted a video titled "A Tribute to the GameCube". We posted it previously but now seems like a good time to put it back up.
Then again, a part of the GameCube will always live within the Wii, whenever, you play Wind Waker, on your Wii...

Anyways, my first console, or should I say handheld, was the GBA SP, then GBM, then the DS Lite, and then Wii.

I don't know what past console wars were like, but I was part of the DS vs. PSP war (Twas my first war and I must say that the DS won that.) and I am now part of the Wii vs. PS3 vs. X360 war, my first 3-way war, even though I like all 3 consoles, i'm still cheering, for the Wii.
I liked the cube, had some nice games.

O well now we have the best system out there. Big Grin
cya cube
great video..
Ciao Cube. You fell in the last generation war but the Wii is sure to avenge you.
You crack me up, Kasaioni...

*meanwhile, ch3mi0n grabs a shovel and buries his GCN...*

*sniffle* It lived a good life...
I was being serious XD.
My GC is still resting on the entertainment stand, albeit in the back of the drawer. I had lot of fun with ya but now it's time to say goodbye. You'll be missed but your children (GC disc) will live on in my Wii. They'll make you proud!
GC ain't dead to me yet. I may have put in the back of my closet the day I got my Wii but the games are still here.
that video almost brought a tear to my eye - some great memories...

(anyone reakon there will be a pikmin 3?)
Actually I'm gonna be playing some Gamecube games since I won like 50 Capcom games and some of them are Gamecube. *crosses fingers for resident evil 4 and killer 7* Big Grin
i never owned a gc
Well thats wonderful for you "The Game"... I'm am honestly just so incredibly glad you told us that, really. Its made my day!

/sarcasm.

On a serious note, was it really necessary to post here just to say that?

Anyway, my Cube will still get used at SSBM tournaments because its better to use that than risk our Wii's getting damaged. So we all bring Cube to play on.

That's why it was funny ;P

Even though I wasn't shedding tears physically, that video made me cry inside. You gave me many years of entertainment, Gamecube. From the first day you were out, to the day I let my older brother borrow you (emphasis on borrow) just a few weeks ago, you will live on in my heart as one of my best memories. Goodbye, Gamecube. :'( *sniffle*
