Back in 1998 Sega threw Sonic into the 3D world. This for some was a dream come true. Others it was the sign that the anti-Christ was is coming. Now in 2007 sonic has been kicked, spat at and torchered because of his 3D games. But now there is a new Wii game with new controls and new graphics. Is this the game to save sonic? Or will it finally bring the hedgehog down? You'll find out in this full Review of Sonic and The Secret Rings.
Story
The story begins with Sonic flipping through the pages of the book Arabian Nights. Suddenly hes visited by the books main character, The Ring Genie. This dude reveals that an evil person known as "Erazor Djinn" is absorbing the power of the Arabian Nights book and causing pages of it to disappear. (DUN DUN DUNN!) If he is not stopped, his power will be unleashed onto the real world unless a "blue hedgehog" can stop him. Shahra grants Sonic the ability to travel into the book’s world, using a special ring. Armed with his speed he sets out to save the missing pages and set the world of the Arabian Nights tales back in order. I almost feel over laughing when i heard all this going on. I thought it was really, really corny! I mean, wats the big deal!! Its only a book! But the thing is that i surprisingly really got into it! Sure it was corny but hey! Its fun!
Graphics
The thing about this game is that i really liked the graphics and thought that they were really nice (Even when moveing fast). The cut seens were awsome and enjoyable to watch. I also really admierd some of the water in the game. Most was ok to bad but there were a few spots that hit it right on the spot. This game is a good sign that sonic in 3D isn't toataly Crap...
Gameplay
The big thing about this game and really all wii games, is how the game uses the wii remote. In this game you turn the wii-mote to its side and steer sonic through all the levels. There are also alot, and i mean alot, of upgrades and such that you can get witch gives the game a longer life. Another thing i have to mention is that the gameplay can ether be toatall wickedness or a complete frustration after the other. It is really hard not to see past the flaws. It wouldn't be so bad if the flaws were small but they're HUGE! I got very frustrated at times and had to stop and get a soda to keep at it. The point is with the gameplay is that its near perfect but the flaws are impossible to see past and that hurts the score. There is a multiplayer but i never got to try it....
Music
This, by far, was the worst aspect of the game. The sound effects wern't so bad but the voice acting and music were so chessey that you are gona wince. Thats how much it hurt. I got used to it but....ITS SO DANG CHESSEY!! AHH....Sorry.
Story-8.5/10-I thought it was chessey to start but i really got into it
Graphics-9.5/10-Great graphics!
Gameplay-6.8/10-Good controls except for the HUGE flaws.
Music-6/10-So dang Chessey.
Overall-8/10-It was good except for the flaws.
Get this Game?-If you liked the old Dreamcast and GC 3D sonics, then you will problems like the enhanced graphics and be able to get past the flaws.
If you really didn't like the older 3D sonics and don't like control flaws, then avoid this game. For me, i think the control flaws really are bad but i do think its a really nice game. Great graphics and story. This really could have been better but its going back to Gamestop for me....
