In a recent interview that Reggie Fils-Aime had on Spike TV's Game Head, he talked about online play for the Wii and when we can expect it. Reggie said that the first online game would be Pokemon Battle Revolution, which isn't really a shocker and we all expected that but the part we didn't expect was what he had to say next. He said that Pokemon Battle Revolution would be launched within a few months of the release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Most of us already assumed that they would launch pretty close to each other but I don't think anyone expected that it would be months after the release. Just how long is a "few months"? 2? 3? Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have a release date of April 22nd so you can expect that the earliest you'll see online play for the Wii will be in June. Fils-Aime: Wii Online Multiplayer Soon, Third Parties Too
One of the final pieces of the Wii puzzle is online multiplayer. Nintendo has finally narrowed things down.
Somewhat.
Wii will have online multiplayer this year, according to Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America president and COO. He told SpikeTV's Game Head that the first North American release to utilize online multiplayer will likely be Pokémon Battle Revolution, which he said will "certainly be coming within a few months of the launch of (Pokémon) Diamond and Pearl." Diamond and Pearl have a release date of April 22.
Fils-Aime said that Nintendo plans on releasing the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption all in 2007. As for Metroid going online, Fils-Aime was back to his more non-committal ways. "Are we going to see online multiplayer (in 2007)? Yes. Are we going to see it on Metroid? We'll keep you waiting on that one."
Just as important to gamers, Fils-Aime said third parties now have what they need to make their games online with Wii. "The tools have been delivered to third parties, so they are working on games right now."

The only good thing that I can see coming out of this interview is that Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are all scheduled to come out this year, even though Metroid Prime 3 may or may not have online play. The smart money is on yes, it will have it but we'll have to wait and see.

Well, being the Pokemon guru of this site, I can tell you from experiance of other Pokemon gamesthat he means that you will get online in the summer, so August or July, wich is when i'm betting PBR will come out.

1) Don't say Pokemon is ****, I think with online added to the Pokemon games they'll get a whole new life. I truly do, that game has just been BEGGING for an online mode.

I totaly agree, its a really good asspect, but to the biggest thing, like look how well the Wii is doing with no online games right now?
Yea, Pokemon lover will go crazy bettling each other online with Diamond and Pearl and PBR, and just like Emerald version (With the very challengeing Battle Fronteir), this will actually get them to make well thought out good teams with good move-sets, abilities, natures, IVs, DVs, EVs and whatever Vs there are, and also a good balance in type, the game actualy will make you think as you can see o.o
I'm really looking forward to the online system once established. Anyone have any ideas how it will run? Like the ds? just join and i will slot you into somebody's game? or will there be like a separate interface for each game with settings and stuff? and chat would rock!
and also can someone tell me when we will be able to use our wiis as base stations for dses as my ds doesn't understand my wireless encryption so i cant play any of my wi-fi games?
