Elebits
ESRB E for Everyone
For the Nintendo Wii

Elebits is Konami’s launch title that delivers some interactive gameplay. You’re probably asking yourself “What’s an Elebit?” Well Elebits are small creatures that are in that world the source of electricity. So when a freak storm suddenly make the Elebits run and hide. It’s time to get out your capture gun and get yourself some Elebits!

Elebits story is quite odd. You’re a 10 year old who hates Elebits because he thinks his Mom and Dad love the Elebits more then they love you…man he’s got issues. Basically he thinks this because Elebits are essentially his parent’s job, there scientists who study Elebits. So when a freak storm knocks all the power out naturally the parents wonder where the Elebits went and go to their office leaving their son at home…I see why he has issues. So Kai decides he’ll capture the Elebits with his dad’s invention; the ‘Capture Gun’.
The story is original but extremely weird. The cut-scenes were rather odd; they were simply drawings, not even comics like Red Steels. Even though the drawings had a unique design they were bad not to mention HORRENDOUS voice acting. When listing to the voice acting you wish you could just smash your head into something. It saddens me that they used pictures to tell the story since they have promotional videos that looked great but they never used that sort of thing when they made the game.
To top it all off you don’t really understand how the story is progressing at some points and you’re just plain confused. It really makes you wonder what they were thinking when they designed the story.

Visually Elebits holds it’s own; it doesn’t look incredible but it doesn’t look horrible. There are quite a few things that do look very good though; such as when Elebits pop out of certain objects. I find that that looks good among many other things. They made the objects look very good and with things like drawers when you open them it looks quite good.
One other thing that looked nice but really hurt the game was the cut-scenes. They looked really cool I’ll admit but they hurt the game sense, well frankly they were the cut-scenes! If they had been un-lockable then that would have been really cool. But alas that is not how it is they ruined how good those pictures looked by making them into cut-scenes.
Over all Elebits looks fine, it’s no master piece but it’s just right and you won’t ever be disgusted by how it looks. You’ll be impressed by the cut-scene drawings until you find out that every single cut-scene is like that!

Elebits gameplay is fun and intriguing, you’ll find yourself set into a certain area of a house or city even and you have to capture a certain amount of Elebits in a certain amount of time. Sometimes you’ll have restraints put on your like for example; perhaps you cannot break more then 5 items or you can’t make a certain amount of noise. They’ve done a good job with it and it feels right with the Wii-Remote.
Now during the game you can lift just about anything if your capture gun is strong enough. You’re probably thinking how do I make my Capture Gun strong enough? Well all you have to do is capture a different type of Elebit that hid in certain household appliances that can be activated by switches when you’ve captured enough of the normal types of Elebits. This comes in handy as eventually you can lift much bigger objects like TVs. It’s a lot of fun to trash the place looking for Elebits, it’s also equally as fun to work the certain household objects. I really find they did a good job gameplay wise.
Elebits are also very interesting as they have different moods and depending on the mood there in when you catch them they’ll count as more if their happy less if there mad. So sometimes if there running away and you capture them you’ll get fewer points for capturing them.
One thing that does hurt the gameplay is the fact that you’re essentially doing the same thing in each level only it’s a little harder. I find that you can get bored once and a while if you play it for too long. One annoying thing is when they measure the amount of sound you make, although this only happens in a few levels and isn’t a big deal.

Elebits controls considerably well, you simply point and use the A or B button to fire your Capture Gun, which works well and feels good. You can also move the object that you’ve selected in any direction, up and down, side to side, back and forth; however which way you want!
It’s really well done and feels quite intuitive. Especially when having to put something into another item. It’s usually very easy although sometimes it can be quite a hassle to get a DVD into a DVD player but other then that the controls work fine and really don’t need to be touched on more then that.

Elebits music is alright but can be quite tedious from time to time. It still sounds ok though and it fits in well with the sort of game it is and the sort of style the game takes on.
The sounds are good and sound somewhat realistic; such as when you bang pots together or break a plate you’ll here a clang or a shattering type noise. The Elebits also make interesting noises depending on their mood. So sometimes they’ll let out a cry or a funny noise that represents them being surprised.
The games music and sound isn’t incredible but truly you won’t be playing this game to listen to the music and the sounds are good enough.

Elebits is worth your money if you have some extra cash and need a game to play while waiting for those heavy hitters that are coming out later on down the road. The game has good replay value if you have a friend who owns the game sense you can create your very own levels and send them to your friend for them to play or you can play them yourself. Which I must say is very fun and the earliest use of Wi Fi.
