Never.

Apple should keep away from Nintendo. They should stick to their eMacs or whatever the Hell they are calling those boxes these days.

As for an upgraded Wii. I wouldn't rule it out, but it won't be for awhile yet. Unless Nintendo wants to make me angry.
Firmware updates will come but for some things you'll have to stick with your current Wii or get the new version. Personally I hate it when they do that. I have the DS Lite but I never had the DS. If I did then it would have pissed me off when the Lite came. Oh well, in the words of Hogan "Whatcha Gonna Do When The New Wii Runs Wild On You!?"
just give me firmware updates, that should enable DVD playback (not that i really need that) and give me the option to use those two beautiful USB 2.0's in the back to hook up an external hard drive Wink

yea, all they would have to do to make money on the DVD upgrade would be, making a firmware update and charge it by Wii Points.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... let's not get ahead of our selves there. CHARGE for a firmware update? Don't even suggest the possibility, they just might do it.
...And i might pay for it, even if it's not a worthwhile update considering the money I've blindly thrown at VC games I've never played before...

I don't really care if they release more advanced versions of the Wii, unless it actually improves some kind of core functionality that will severely increase the performance of the system that will leave my current model in the dust.

But then again, I'm still using my first gen iPod, shows you how much I take to updates.

agreed, charging for a firmware update is weak....
I doubt they're going to do anything other than add DVD playback (which I don't care at all about) and add new colors. They won't make it high def because that would require more expensive hardware and be a compatibility nightmare. Mind you I'd be thrilled if they made it high def, but I just don't see it happening. Ditto for adding an HD-DVD drive. It's just going to cost too much and unless they decide to have two versions like the other consoles they won't do it.

Of course this might be wishful thinking on my part because I already have mine and don't want to be tempted to buy another one.Smile
again, why couldn't they do it like Xbox360 did. Use one of those USB 2.0's on the back and have an HD DVD player?

edit............

I've written about this before, but I'll do it again. The Wii can produce HD images, but it does so at rates that wouldn't be good for games. HD movies run at 24 frames per second, and I have no doubt that the Wii could do that.
I though it wasn't possible to simiply add DVD playback with a firmware update. Also hardware changes can also mean different colors.
hmm I'd think color changes would be more cosmetic and I'm guessing hardware changes mean that as the system gets older, Nintendo will find new ways to make the parts cheaper, so that in a year or so the system will be less expensive for them and get even high profits. I also think they hardware changes might mean Wii-mote changes.

As for the DVD thing...

You could have a DVD player built into your computer, but without the driver or the program to actually play DVDs your SOL. Since the Wii uses regular DVDs for it's games, I can see where a firmware update could give the system the driver, and you could download or buy (500 points) a DVD player channel for your system.

edit...........

if you think about it, a DVD channel would really fit into what Nintendo's been dong with all the other "channel's" we've seen thus far. Having the option to purchase a DVD channel would keep nintendo from shelling out their own cash by making a DVD player a norm on our systems or future ones.

Ive been sayign this ever since I saw the Wii.....

Apple + Nintendo = match made in Heaven.

Apple has style, but we still haven't seen any great gaming performance from their computers, even though they have the Core2 Duo processors and great graphics cards.
Adding apple to Nintendo would only make nintendo's games worse. We all know how much experience apple has with video games. 0. Just because their designs look kind of similar, it doesn't mean they should combine.
I-Wii just sounds odd.

Just came across this article and thought I'd post it here to update what's going on in terms of a partnership with Apple. I didn't really want to start another thread since this one has already been made. Nothing fancy about it, just the story below.

Nintendo's Reggie on teaming with Apple

What keeps Reggie awake at night? What does he think about teaming up with Apple? All the answers, inside.

March 02, 2007 - Beyond the shiny white exteriors of their respective products, Nintendo and Apple share quite a lot more in common, especially as far as their innovation-driven philosophies are concerned.

Nintendo's American boss, Reggie Fils-Aime, was recently quizzed on the possibility of the two companies teaming up. "We are often compared to Apple, and I certainly view that as complimentary," he said. "They are a very innovative company. They’re a company that has a similar mindset that technology is important, but it’s the use and application of the technology that is most important.

"Making content or — in their world, computer functionality easy and painless — certainly is something that is very much in our D.N.A. as well. But Apple, just like Nintendo, tends to be the type of company that likes to keep its own ecosystem by itself," and as such, he conceded, "That might make any type of partnership a bit more challenging."

Fils-Aime also let slip what keeps him awake at night. Not surprisingly, his thoughts center around the challenge of keeping the Wii momentum going throughout the year ahead. "...the upcoming holiday season truly will be our key selling season," he said. "At that point, our manufacturing capacity will be going full bore, with additional plants operational.

"We will have fantastic software on the shelves, we will have gone beyond those initial early adopters and Wii will have to be a mainstream brand at that point. That is our biggest challenge and that’s what we’re gearing up for — to make sure that everything is properly lined up to make that happen."
