Sony: PS3 On Shelves Is A Good Thing

by Mark Renton

SCEA chief executive Jack Tretton says that the it's a good thing that PS3 is stocked on shelves. He says that sales are brisk, and that it's because of Sony's solid preparation that units are readily available.

"It's a testament to the fact that we've been able to manufacture and ship units on a greater pace than any previous console," Tretton recently told Reuters.

"Our goal is to fill shelves across the United States. Our goal is not to have empty shelves, it's to have full shelves. If we have a empty shelves that's one less consumer who could have bought a PlayStation 3."

But it still take a month or two until the company can completely catch up with demand. "April or May is when we feel like we're going to catch up to demand and have product fully in stock across North America and stay there," said Tretton.

Stop making up excuses sony, the reason why there are ps3 on shelves is because NOBODY WANTS THEM FFS.

ROFL!!! This guy is so stupid..
I feel a comic coming on...
I hate to take shots at Sony like this but they make it too damn easy.
The key point of the article is that once the shelves are stocked they will "stay there." hahaha!

And I love the comment, "sales are brisk." LMAO! WTF is that supposed to mean? Sounds like Sony is just shoveling another load of BS.
As LMX stated in another post on this board:

"Sony reps just shouldn't speak."
I want one. *feels like the only one*
I also want one, but not just yet.
Well then you guys shouldn't have any problem finding one!

OMFG Sony reps are sooo retarded. Man you'd think just one Sony employee would just tap that guy on the shoulder and say:

Sony Employee"Sir"

Sony Rep:"Yes?"

SE:"Your a Fu***** retard."

SR: :O

You'd think atleast one Sony person would have some brains...
yeah, the cleaners.
It sounds like Sony's strategy is working then. I never thought they having unsold systems on a shelf would be part of it, but since I'm not the head of a multi-national company, I guess I wouldn't understand such things.

Don't believe other things you've read. This is Sony's plan. It's been this way from the beginning. By their standards (the only standard that counts) their kicking everyone else's AS$es, and their sales are right on track.

Wish I would have gotten that decoder ring in the mail months ago, cause that's what made me understand it all.
You're right Kindrik. It's not that I dislike he PS3, it's just that... they make it so easy to make fun of it.

It's alomst as if the Sony Reps are playing a game of chicken, who can say the most retarded things, so far all of them are holding their ground :p
Well according to news reports in my country, If sony don't do something in the next couple of months they're looking at going bust because with the laptop battery failures, Bravia TVs exploding, the blue laser shortage and the $200 loss on each console (Which is selling badly in comparison to the competition) they won't be able to stay afloat.

Think about it. The PS3 is by far the most difficult console to develop for yet (even more so than a PC) you have an 7 core unified processor architechure that will have anywhere between 4-6 working cores (as the yeild is so low they actually have to use semi defective chips in the consoles) and a shit load of propietry code and function calls to learn. It is also the most expensive to develop for, BluRay media is stupidly expensive for mass production. It also has the smallest market share of the current consoles. And lets not even get on to the price.

Developers see this and develop for the 360 or, god forbid, the Wii. Because there are less games developed for the console less people buy one. The 360 has already got a massive library of games (and the backward compatibility actually works) and the Wii is "cheap and fun". So we see more games on those consoles and less on the PS3. This means that with less people buying one that decreases the market share because the PS3's rate of adoption will slow even more.

By the time the wii hits 10m sales the PS3 might not have made it past 4m, Developers will lose hope in the console and you'll be left with the few titles that are already there. And we all know what happened to the gamecube with (essentially) no third party - Nintendo didn't have broken batteries and exploding TVs to deal with aswell.

If I was anyone reading this thread, I'd jump off the S.S. Playstation as soon as I could because it's beginning to sink quite quickly.

Good Riddance.
So weird...why can't Sony just shut up?
*fixed*
do you think since GDC things will turn around for Sony in this matter.
darkdragoon thats what ive been predicting and preaching in these forums since e3. Good to see someone who can see multiple angles of the business. And in response to green above me i think it did help. But is it too late? If they dont get a huge boost either finacially or technology wise itll be a long tough future for them. I disagree with them going broke but it definitly isnt going to be easy for sony. I do think GDC helped them out alot. Sony's keynote speech was great. But i have no idea how they will support such an online enviroment (home) and maintain it and how fast they will be able to adopt it into ps3 owner's homes.
But one of sony's goals is coming to fluishion. Blue ray sales have increased by a large margin since ps3 launch over taking hd dvd sales...altho i dont know how reputable the info is. (if i had the source id post it but im sure its not too hard to find).
I dont see them out of the game but its definitly a huge uphill battle for them. I dont know how sony can be so upbeat about it. Do they know something we as consumers dont know?

A bit, but it will be a slow climb back up. However GDC did pull Sony out of it's downward tail spin.

Gamers can be very fickle sometimes. One amazing game can make everyone forget about the BS times of the past. We'll just have to wait and see how this story unfolds.
Well I doubt Twilight Princess (even if it never came to Wii) would have caused gamers to forget about the mistakes Nintendo made with GameCube. Maybe for a week or two if at all.
Twilight Princess was the GEM of the gamecube. People would have been talking about it for years if it hadn't also come out for the Wii. Better yet if it had come out in late 2005 like it was suppose to.
