Everyone know that Best Buy is one of the largest retail shops in the country. People go there expecting good service and good prices.

About 6 months ago I went into a local Best Buy to purchase A TV series which was priced at $19.99 on http://www.bestbuy.com When I went into the store, the price was higher. I asked a sales associate to check the price on their computer, at which time he said "our internet is down, but I'll check our in store web page." After doing this and telling me the dvd would be $29.99, I went back home, went back to the best buy website and printed off the web page showing that I should only have to pay $19.99.

It seems that I'm not the only one who has been screwed over by Best Buy. A recent article shows that many people are getting prices from best buy associates not knowing those prices are from a in store website that is almost always higher priced then the online one.

Best Buy Confirms It Has Secret Website

Under pressure from state investigators, Best Buy is now confirming my reporting that its stores have a secret intranet site that has been used to block some consumers from getting cheaper prices advertised on BestBuy.com.

Company spokesman Justin Barber, who in early February denied the existence of the internal website that could be accessed only by employees, says his company is "cooperating fully" with the state attorney general's investigation.

saw that on the news...might be a class action lawsuit in the making
there should be... i can't even start to mention the number of items i have bought from there and have had bad experiences. many people might wonder why i keep going back, well it's because my local circuit city is even worse Smile
I would think more and more people would try and stay away from Best Buy after all of this.
It's not just Best Buy that does that... with most companies, if you purchase something from their online site, it's cheaper than going to the store and buying it in person. same with catalogue orders. it helps promote their website/catalogue sales, so that they can keep them running.
and p.s. - if you dont like someplace, either stop going there, or stop complaining. that's the way i deal with things, and it saves me a lot of trouble.
lol it's not that the online price is cheaper than in store prices, it's that Best Buy is being charged with a fraud against the consumer. As in my case they claimed they couldn't access the Online website.

I do think that people do need to complain because that's when things get done. If you don't complain and your friend or a loved one goes to one of these places and is taken advantage of, then I'd hope you feel like crap for not letting them know what's going on Smile
i wouldnt feel like crap. i'd tell them to start shopping online. i mean, it happens all the time, and not just with Best Buy...i dont see the reason for a lawsuit because they make their online prices cheaper. if it'll get people to their site, then good for them. if they were to start advertising things on their website saying "buy for $x in stores now!" and the price was more expensive when you went into the store, THEN id complain. but if it doesnt specify that, then it's a website price. not an in-store price.
From what I understand, the complaint is that Best Buy had a "look-a-like" website that was accessible from any computer inside Best Buy, that showed in store prices as if they were the online prices.

I doubt this article will change my Best Buy shopping habits, since I refuse to go there anyway unless I need something really quickly. FYI, you can buy online for instore pickup with Best Buy, completely eliminating the need for getting them to price match it.

The company I work for has separate dot com and in store prices as they complete with separate markets, but we can access our dot com from in store to match prices when customers request.
I think we have to ask ourselves, why would best buy even have a in store website? If they honor their online prices then why would they have a site that only store employees can see that has prices more expensive.

There's only one answer to that....they're trying to screw you over Smile

Yes I'll complain, and the next company who is caught doing this...I'll complain about them also Smile
wow thats pretty gay, but still where yoou gona go. id rather have just not known about that to tell you the truth. but what you going to do.. well... here in canda there is a future shop! Toungue and the one i go to i know a person who works there!! !! yay 4 me
